Discussion: Report: Dennis Hastert Suffered Stroke Not Long After Pleading Guilty

Live long and falter , you ol’ devil.

Well, the good news is that with all the money he stole by pushing a Federal road construction project that materially increased the value of the property he bought in advance of its passage, even after buying the silence of his boy-toy he’ll have enough left over for the finest care money can buy. Because as I’m sure he’d tell ya, we have the finest health care system in the world for people like him.

Ken Lay’s “body” was seen by exactly two people outside of his immediate family (the doctor who signed the death certificate and the local sheriff) before being privately “cremated” the very next day. As a result of this very timely “death” (before his appeal was completed) all charges against him were declared moot, and the trial verdict was vacated, so his family never had to pay back one cent of reparations. I’m not generally one for conspiracy theories, but in this case I think the odds are better than even that Lay is very much alive and well and living happily in the Cayman Islands or Bahamas.

As for Hastert, I have to agree that a sudden serious medical condition that just happens to appear before sentencing also seems very convenient. But if it’s not a scam, it couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.

@Ken_T
Just so they don’t use the killed both parents and now asks for leniency because he’s an orphan shtick.

When a life policy is 2 yrs old, the suicide exclusion is null.

There is only one way for what the attorney presented to make sense and that is to reverse the order of the medical events.
Perhaps Hasert had orthopedic surgery for a back problem. Something necessitated a follow up surgery, possibly to clean out an infection that had rapidly developed from the first procedure. Or perhaps he became infected in the second surgery. The infection wasn’t well controlled and Hastert became septic, a potentially life-threatening condition which could conceivably cause a stroke due to blood clotting factors getting out of whack.
Otherwise, the whole thing seems very much hyped up. You can get from D to A but not A to D in this sequence.

All that being said, and the attorney is simply trying to make a case for leniency based on medical issues. a medical expert is free to float any trumped up, medically inaccurate interpretation of facts they wish and not be held to account other than to have another medical expert dispute their findings. Lawyers have a field day with that sad state of affairs.

Why did I go immediately to “The Vikings” iconography?

I have avoided facing claiming my father’s life insurance for going on seventeen years because when his beloved wife died, he also died at his own hand. I have finally applied for the benefit and have been going through months of gathering documents and postal back and forth, with Public Notary stamps and money orders I have allowed myself to become frantic with worry occasionally at the idea his suicide being a bar to that happening. Distracting myself am trolling the Dennis Hastert discussion thread and
BAM
my eyes glanced upon your comment as I was scrolling down.

We never know when something we type down in a public forum will impact someone reading your comments for reasons FAR beyond the salient point you have definitely made. Keep it lit!

Nonsense. You have a link for that?

Not true. Claimants can’t get punitive damages, but they can collect compensatory damages.

I am well aware of the rest about charges being dropped, etc. Does not change the fact that people do have heart attacks and die, especially under stress. There is no big undercover operation going on with him in hiding. Numerous people would need to be involved, etc. Plus I’m not seeing people who are suing or DOJ doing any investigations, etc. Nor are any of the good investigative reporters like Greg Palast doing any investigation. That would be way too huge a story.

Jeff Skilling is doing jail time and had to pay huge fines. Any reason why he did not fake his death?

The reality is that faking your death is almost impossible, especially for a famous person. Ken Lay is dead.

Another GOP sociopath.

Indeed. Six degrees of separation. The suicide exclusion is only for the first two years.Good luck.

If you are the beneficiary, all you need is the death certificate, the policy number and address of the insurance.
