I would vote for Bull Connor over Donald Trump.

Trump is that dangerous.

See Wikipedia excerpt belowā€¦Although Connor was a monster to African Americans, he did have space in his conception of humanity for white people. Even to the point of being pro-union. Trump has space in his conception of humanity for no one but himself, viewing all people as resources to be used. If a brickmason can ā€œloveā€ cement, then one can say that Trump ā€œlovesā€ humanity. Moreover, anyone claiming that Adolf Hitler had an equal moral compass to Bull Connor, that person is deeply misinformed as to what constitutes a demagogic fascist. A demagogic fascist destroys all peopleā€“requiring much stronger methods than those which halted Bull Connorā€¦

From Wikipedia:

ā€œConnor was born in 1897 in Selma, Alabama, the son of Molly (Godwin) and Hugh King Connor, a train dispatcher and telegraph operator.[4] Connor entered politics as a Democrat in 1934 (and never left the DNC), winning a seat in the Alabama House of Representatives.[5] As a legislator he supported populist measures and pro-union issues for white people.ā€

And here you had me thinking this was gonna be a group of influential conservatives.

Old red-hair red-face doesnā€™t count.

ā€œif he is the Republican nominee for president, to offer a true conservative candidate in the general election.ā€

A true Conservative is someone who will support failed economic and foreign policies. Who screams the government does not work while doing everything in their power to break it in order to prove their point. Who demands that poor people lift themselves up while lending a hand through tax breaks and other incentives to people and businesses that need no help.

Well, donā€™t get your hopes up too much, folks. It is very unlikely that they will be able to field a 3rd-party ā€œtrue conservativeā€ candidate in the general because GOD DOES NOT LOVE ME THAT MUCH.

Despite Ericksonā€™s latest grift inspiration, the Republican Party will not abandon Trump in November.
If he secures the nomination, the entire GOP establishment will trip over each other rushing to his aid.
Especially if a tie-breaking SCOTUS vote, key to all those Republican schemes, hangs in the balance.

Past GOP rat f#cking ā€“ push polling, whisper campaigns, fake press releases, voter suppression, wiretaps, stolen debate briefs, secret deals with ayatollahs, the Brooks Brothers Riot ā€“ will seem quaint by comparison.

To paraphrase Schopenhauer:

ā€œGOP acceptability of Donald Trump passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as self-evident.ā€

According to the Politico report, those slated to attend include Republican figures with deep ties to the conservative movement: Erik Erickson, a conservative media activist; Bill Wichterman, a President George W. Bush aide; and Bob Fischer, a South Dakota businessman.

How are they going to get on the ballot since many of the deadlines are either rapidly approaching or already past?

A few months back, I read an article about how the GOP was coping with the idea of Trump as their nominee. One of the scenarios being floated around was running a third party candidate so that they could be sure the conservative message would be part of the conversation in the presidential election. They know they canā€™t win and they see a third party candidate as being necessary to save conservatism while also giving GOP voters a credible third party option. Itā€™ll be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Ok, the Speaker of the House and the other GOP candidates are saying they will support Trump if heā€™s the GOP nomineeā€¦but, wait a minuteā€¦ Erik Erickson, a conservative media activist; Bill Wichterman, a President George W. Bush aide; and Bob Fischer, a South Dakota businessman are against him? Why didnā€™t you say so?

Game over, man, game over.

I think the general election has a different set of deadlines than the primaries?

Right, so three nobodies are going to stop Trump.

Whatā€™s next, the Libertarian candidate is going to take him down?

now any ā€˜fellow travelersā€™ have to see what would it take to get this party on the ballot in the firewall states. However, this party is close to what any splinter faction might look for.

Wow. God bless them for trying, but I donā€™t think these three are the brain trust the GOP is looking for to stop Donald Trump. They might first tackle a bake sale, or something on that level.

Ah, but the Speaker of the House and the rejected GOP candidates have almost zero sway over the base. Erickson and Redstate actually have more power over the GOP base than even the RNC and the Speaker combined. Thatā€™s why theyā€™re stuck with Trump now. The party bosses no longer matter, they no longer control anything. The Conservative Entertainment Complex has the reigns and theyā€™ll drive this thing off a cliff.
