Certainly a portion of those Stein voters were unreachable. More on that later. But do recall (1), the Stein vote was greater in Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin than was the margin between Trump and Clinton; (2), Stein went from half a million votes in 2012 to a million and a half votes in 2016. No need to wonder who supplied those million new votes; (3) FiveThirtyEight and others peg the Sanders primary voters who went on to vote for Trump at 10%. I think that’s high but don’t know; (4) those who stayed at home; (5) yes, fewer Black voters came out in 2016 than for Obama; (6) who voted but refused to vote for President. If just one of these turned out the other way, Comey wouldn’t have mattered.
But it’s still unavoidably the cultural rot of the modern white left. Like Ralph Nader - who was quite deliberate about throwing the election to Bush - we have a white, privileged culture of narcissism to deal with. “The white luxury vote” as Black leaders noted of Nader. The same certainly applied to Stein, and, yes, to an extent Sanders. The narcissism, the petulance, the cluelessness and the rest were cut-and-paste 2016 back to 2000. Hell, we can go back to '68. And we perfectly see at this site the constant making perfect the enemy of good.
Almost only white people born in comfort and raised in comfort say the things (like we see here), in defense of Stein and Nader. It’s white privilege, the white luxury vote.
So to your point of the unreachable Stein sisters, the hard-core Bernie brothers and the rest: don’t put much effort here. Reach the infrequent voters who aren’t happy (many of whom voted for Obama the first time and often the second).
But how far we have fallen from “Ask not what your country can do for you.”
I can build better stuff, and will pay you $10 million and one hundred dollars. Please send the $5 billion Energy Department check to my savings account.
Correct me if I’m missing something, but so far doesn’t it appear that Drumpf has gotten away with literally every crime he’s committed? There’s not a single crooked deal, unethical appointment to cushy positions, financial conflict, family patent (in China for Ivanka), etc. that hasn’t gone through. In all seriousness, why is anyone surprised that the Pig-in-Chief continues to feed at the trough and wallow in the ill-gotten proceeds? He’s cashing in on every possible scam before his term runs out. I honestly don’t see one thing he’s not pulled off that enriches his crime family and its hangers-on. The Stormy Daniels thing has meant nothing. The “grab 'em” horror did nothing to deter his march. The utter failure of his policies with North Korea has not slowed the rot at all. I’m convinced this mad man will be re-elected because if he’s not been throttled by now, what the hell else could happen that will bring him down? The coup is complete, America.
But he’s not going to be throttled now. Only the 2020 Election will throttle him. It’s in the timing. It would be more helpful if the acquittal in the Senate came later in the campaign season.
What we know about taxes when it comes to huge real estate deals and the sandbox they play in, well, you can throw out everything you think you and I know. We know nothing about the sandbox they play in.
Dude, I’ve read comments and debated on the tragedy known as the 2016 election for too long.
This I know: it’s in the past and it we should keep it there until Trump is defeated one way or another.
Thousands upon thousands of comments have been expended on that subject here. Nothing is going to change by expending thousands more.
There were many reasons why Hillary lost. I think we need to quit trying to insult people who supported a different candidate and try to stand together to defeat Trump.
I dislike Biden, The day he becomes our candidate I’ll quit criticizing him. I will support and vote for him. No matter how much I want any qualified female to be our candidate. I don’t think we have the luxury of indulging in pettiness and picking scabs off of political wounds until we get Trump out of office. If you insist, knock yourself out. I’m done.
ETA: No matter how tempted I am, I refuse to be baited into rehashing it anymore. It’s pointless.
The Department of Energy told the AP that the loan application was “business sensitive” and declined to comment further.
Asked if he could comment on the loan Energy Secretary Rick Perry said, “As far as I know we’re not making a loin for Memorial Day. We’re barbecuing Juicy Lucy burgers.”
Biden will not receive my primary vote. I will canvass for a Buick if it is the nominee. Dude, no excuses for not performing one’s civic duty. If, as a particular Nineteenth Century German philosopher once wrote, “History repeats itself twice; the first as tragedy, the second as farce,” then what is three times? Five times? When does a bug become a feature?
I’m convinced this mad man will be re-elected because if he’s not been throttled by now, what the hell else could happen that will bring him down? The coup is complete, America.
C’mon, this is exactly the reaction and associated mental state they want you in - there’s more of us than them, we’re better looking and darnit, people like us!
Good for Cohen! Glad he’s speaking the truth! Trump will soon find himself backed up against the wall and all of his spoken lies and the lies that are yet to be spoken by Trump!
What exactly is gender-based voting going to accomplish? You don’t even state what policies or talents you think a female candidate is offering, just gender?
We JUST HAD the first female major party nominee is 240 years, and women generally said, “Meh!” and were underwhelming in their support, and white women voted for Trump!
In the real world gender-based hiring is illegal, even if to correct an earlier injustice or perceived imbalance.
The peace and love segment was not the majority, but were a new thing and important in terms of cultural change. All the ones I know are just as progressive/left as ever. The rest got worse.
That’s what I was trying to say. From a business perspective, this deal as structured doesn’t make sense. As a political deal, it doesn’t have to make business sense. And it is likely money laundering with the added advantage (mark up) of political favoring. And, it smells legal.
Plus, the matter at hand (sneaking around on the wife for sex with another woman) was one that many, many men of all political persuasions have fallen into and—in the nature of humans being forgiving of their own mistakes—tended to see as an issue that shouldn’t be such a big deal.
The same way many of them feel about Stormy Daniels.
You can take losses in one or more businesses to offset income in others. But if the losses exceed your total taxable income in any given year, you can carry any losses forward into the next years to offset THAT income, which can reduce your taxable income to zero in those years.
A good way to avoid paying taxes for, oh, say, a decade or so…
