Discussion: Report: CIA's Liaison To The NSC Fired After Clash With Controversial Aide

Is there any faction this misadministration will not alienate? Less than 100 days, no real accomplishments and now they are pissing off the staffers they need to get things done, as well as further insult the intel community. Gee they are dumb.

First they came for all the competent, intelligent and ethical employees. Next they are coming for…who?

Making enemies in the CIA - what could go wrong with that?

Putin’s investment in Trump is paying off handsomely.

Short-term, Trumpian incompetence is creating chaos in our foreign policy and discord and infighting within our IC apparatus.

Long-term, Trump budget cuts savaging higher education and basic research will enfeeble our ability to stay in the forefront of science and technology.

And as is their wont, the messaging by the Democratic Party leadership about this is virtually nonexistent, and instead Dems are fighting amongst themselves over Ossoff and Bernie.

“What happened to him was fucked up.”

Story of this administration and the voters whose creation this was.

OT but this from Gail Collins’ “Paging the Trump Armada” illustrates in a humorous way just how fucked up it is:

"When it comes to Trump and foreign affairs, the big problem is that you want to be fair, but you don’t want to encourage him. A lot of Americans liked the idea of responding to a chemical attack in Syria by bombing a Syrian air base. But if the president thought it was popular, wouldn’t he get carried away? It’s like praising a 4-year-old for coloring a picture, and the next thing you know he’s got his crayons out, heading for the white sofa.

What we want to do is take the crayons away and murmur: “Good boy. Now why don’t you go off and nominate some ambassadors for a change?”

And go find your boats."

I totally believe Cohen-Watnick was disrespectful, but what exactly did he do? More details please.

Also, all the distractions are keeping Intel from focusing on the real dangers facing the nation.

From the Guardian, I’d guess it was about who was 'relevant" that the liaison could talk to w/o C-W’s prior approval. The disrespect was in the way he was ‘fired’.

That marine officer was the CIA’s liaison to the White House, whose duties included bringing relevant White House officials with appropriate security clearance into the loop about covert operations.
According to current and former White House and intelligence officials, he lost a bureaucratic struggle with his nominal boss, the National Security Council’s controversial intelligence director

Nothing illustrates the GOP’s degenerate and destructive depravity more than the fact that it devoted its entire existence for several years to impeaching a Democratic President over a goddamn blowjob, but completely ignores a Republican President actively colluding with a hostile foreign power to undermine our democracy and weaken our national security.

Doubtful we ever know, and if we do, it will be years from now when the “tell-all” books start coming out.

But I can take a stab at guessing. Cohen-Watnick is part of the faction that wants to limit the intelligence the President receives, or perhaps more importantly, they want to limit the people giving him analysis on intelligence. This is about the time that it was reported that they wanted to give the President “raw intelligence” instead of summary analysis.

This guys job was to brief senior White House staffers. So clearly, he wasn’t on board with where Cohen-Watnick’s faction wanted to go. Tensions were already on the rise, as this was roughly the time that Cohen-Watnick had gone to the WH Counsel’s office with the evidence that he eventually gave to Nunes. And was summarily dismissed by the WH Counsel and told to cease and desist in those efforts.

The real question that needs to be answered is…why is Cohen-Watnick still working in the White House and on the NSC? We know that McMasters already tried to fire him once before the Nunes affair, but both Bannon and Kushner stepped at the last moment and overruled that. Why? And Why, if Bannon really is losing status…is Cohen-Watnick still there?

I thought the WH and Justice Dept are on the warpath for leakers. Providing documents under the table is the very definition of leaking

McMaster needs to do the right thing. Quit and go public.

So no indication on what actually happened?

I was wondering what happened to this dude. He was identified as one who provided info to Nunes.

He simply got what he deserves! Hopefully, he will learn, that spinsters only wounds ups to spin themselves! SAD!

Akin to loudly berating your server before your food arrives…

Dumb and paranoid. Anyone who tries to do their job rather than does what Bannon or Kushner direct them to do becomes suspect in their minds.
