I oppose the death penalty, but if there must be executions, a painless, one-drug protocol should be used. If it works with pets, why not with humans?
If a quick-acting, painless, one-drug protocol is not available for humans, then use a guillotine to quickly sever the head from the spinal chord: no pain experienced and the remaining blood in the brain only provides consciousness for 8-15 seconds.
