Yep…I was guessing this would go down before Boehner left. And the wingnuts are going to set new level of spittle spewing madness

presumed successor Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)

Your party will love and support you for all of 5…4…3…2…1…0 seconds.

Figures–all the progress in government comes from lame ducks.

That would be VERY nice.

Then Ryan can reign over his motley crew of imbeciles without HAVING to accomplish anything until after the next election.

Please let this be true.

Oh, its true…there have been reports for awhile now that McConnell, Boehner and Obama have been hashing this out in the background. Pretty much since Boehner announced his resignation.

It didn’t really fit the media story about DOOM and all the power that the Freedom Caucus has, so its been largely ignored.

And how do they expect to get this past the lunatic caucus even with the adults all voting for it?

Boehner is promising he can get a law the zealots will hate passed. And you think that doesn’t promise more drama than a Tennessee Williams festival?

They don’t have to get it past the suicide caucus. Boner can just bring it to the floor for a vote. Since they can’t fire him now…

Off topic. Is it just me or does the photo of Boehner and Obama look like Obama’s head has been photo-shopped?

Be honest with you. I get very nervous when Obama makes a deal with the House leadership.

I’ll be honest with you: PBO takes them to the cleaners every time.

Yup. But since the alternative is default and a shutdown…

But yeah, these “deals” always seem to be very lopsided in favor of the republicans. Something about the position “do it my way or I drive this car off a cliff into the ocean” seems to give them undue leverage.

Until all the votes are counted in the affirmative, I’m not going to hold my breath in anticipation.

You and I both predicted as much. It never made any sense for Boehner to step down if he wasn’t going to at least take some of this mess off the table of his predecessor. And I do think they’re at least intelligent enough to understand that going into a presidential election year, a year when Democrats can actually be bothered vote, isn’t the time to shutdown the government and/or default on our credit. Clearing the table before Boehner ends his speakership was always no-brainer.

While it makes perfect sense, it still could be white-knuckle time.

I can see the suicide caucus/ tea party threatening to primary anyone who votes in favor, for example.

So the takeaway is that we need a constant stream of top GOP leadership resignations to get Republicans in Congress to do their job.

The funny part is that they desperately need to get this done in order to have any hope of winning next year, but doing so makes it a lot tougher for an establishment candidate to win the nomination. There’s no doubt Trump, Carson, Cruz, etc, will take every opportunity to demonize the deal, the establishment, and even Paul Ryan.

Until it’s signed into law, who the f***k cares.
