Discussion: Report: Bernie Sanders Records Video Announcing 2020 Presidential Bid

Yep, I did. Donated and voted for him, in fact. Because his other positions forced a discussion we needed to have. Hell, go back through my comments here from the run-up to the convention, you’ll see I’m one of the people who said that him staying in long after it was evident he wasn’t going to win was ok, because of that. Even when he was poking his finger into how the platform was put together, and beyond.

And yes, TPP was NAFTA on steroids, along with some serious corrections born of two decades of direct experience with NAFTA. What’s your point? Amazingly enough, some of us manage to hold complex positions about the necessary realities in a complex world vs the platonic ideal. Trade agreements are necessary. They are generally good for everyone involved. You wanna get pissy about NAFTA and American jobs, go yell at the replacements for those American workers: American robots.

I don’t forget it one little bit. What does Hillary saying about TPP (and yes, saying it after Sanders made it a campaign issue) have to do with my take on his position on it? You’ll notice, I hadn’t mentioned that Trump spoke out against TPP too, but he did. In what world it would it make sense to say 'I supported Bernie, but Hillary had this position I also objected to? Is that even coherent? Or are you just looking to create false equivalences?

We already have. Remember: Supremacy Clause. NAFTA holds sway over any laws we have domestically. TPP would’ve improved on what we have. It would have superseded and replaced a whole host of other treaties, including NAFTA. And no, TPP makes no mention of China. Why would it? China being the reason for an agreement around the Pacific doesn’t mean you put ‘AND CHINA SUCKS’ into the agreement.
