Discussion: Report: Bannon Breaks With Trump, Backs Roy Moore In Alabama Run-off

President Donald Trump has been vocal about his support for Moore’s opponent Sen. Luther Stranger (R-AL), who was appointed to take Attorney General Jeff Session’s seat when he joined the administration.

If Roy Moore polls 10 points ahead of Strange two weeks before the election Trump will announce he's really been for Moore all along.

You’re right: Trump will without hesitation drop Strange for Trump for polls (and all the right-wing christianists who have his ear).

Such a brave ‘warrior’, Bannon is (not). Pick a stand different than Trump - to stage a ‘show down’ of who is more influential with the base - but pick the battle by picking the likely winner - which would show no strength per a battle of influence with Trump, but would hand Trump a defeat and (guessing he hopes) a humiliation. But as said above, Trump which just claim he was rooting for Moore all along.

@sickneffintired The 8 yr partial to now full embrace of the Tea Party as a means to ‘stick it to the Black Pres.’ per GOP power - does seem to take its full impact between Trump and then Moore in the senate. There is a dose of Nelson’s HaHa at the cynical mainstream republicans. Then that fades and we are stuck with the results. ugh.

Over at the Daily Intelligencer, Ed Kilgore’s reporting on the primary was that the basic debate was over who loved Trump more and, in the case of Moore and Mo Brooks, the third candidate, who hated Mitch McConnell more. McConnell backed Strange.

Bannon’s supporting Moore isn’t about opposing Trump but going after McConnell’s hold on his caucus. I suspect Bannon is backing Moore because he both wants to blow stuff up and because Moore would cause McConnell far more headaches.

Oh, Stevie, you’re such a card. Still trying to fuck things up, eh? Jedge Moore won’t need any help when he gets in up there in DeeCee.

“breaks”?

No one in Alabama believes for a minute that DJT really backs Strange. They’ve all seen the wink.

Well, this puts Moore right over the top.

Does Steve Bannon’s nod carry any weight in Alabama? I mean, have people there ever heard of him even?

Whatever happens, it’s a Strange election. Then again, it’s in Alabama.

I’m rooting for Moore. Let him get elected, and then let the Democrats in the Senate move to have the body deny him his seat (which it can do). Let’s see how the Republicans try to finesse that when Moore’s multiple idiocies are splashed across the nation (again).

Well DUH!.
Roy Moore is by FAR the more insane, slavering Dominionist lunatic in the race. OF COURSE Breitbart will back him.
He is the very DEFINITION of Breitbart’s demographic (and a darling of Breitbart’s “sugar daddies” the American Taliban loving Billionaire Mercers.)

Moore will probably try to lug a giant Ten Commandments statue into the Senate chamber and bollix up regular order until his Christo-fundy demands are met! What other reason does he have for wanting a Senate seat? Good governance?

Ted “Jesus” Cruz is up for some stiff competition in the Christo-fascist whack-job department if Moore gets elected.
