I’ll be reading it. The much ballyhooed “Profiles in Courage” was the last big read from a President in my lifetime before “Dreams of My Father” and “The Audacity of Hope” came along…and Profiles was mostly organized and written by T.C. Sorensen. President Obama knows how to write well on his own. I’m kinda looking forward to it.
Somehow, as much as I was enthusiastic about Obama when he first appeared on the national scene and as much as I’ve admired his intellect and verbal skills, among other things, all these years, I’ve never read his books. So I plan to do that soon—I’m sure it’ll be a balm after these recent months.
I’ll say this about the current occupant—he does not have the raw intelligence or developed intellect needed to write a coherent paragraph, much less a speech or a book. Observation, judgment, a feel for language, insight into the human condition, he’s devoid of absolutely everything that goes into good writing. One tell would be every goddamn thing he’s said in the last two years. Another would be his habit of reading speeches like he’s literally never seen them before and occasionally stopping to say “So true, so true.” He’s a fucking joke. Never wrote a laundry list to save his life.
