Discussion: Report: Attorney General Eric Holder Resigning

Discussion for article #228073

If he plans to stay until he’s replaced, he might be there through the remainder of the Obama administration. The senate won’t get to his replacement this year, and if the Republicans win the senate, no nominees are going through for anything.

He’s been the AG a lot longer than GWB’s first AG was.

Good. Perhaps his successor will prosecute George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld for war crimes.

They’ve been demonizing Holder for so long. How will they justify holding up his replacement’s confirmation if that keeps him in office?

Trivia: Eric Holder is currently the third longest serving AG. If Congress fails to confirm a replacement and he serves through 2016, he’ll beat Janet Reno for second place.

Not going to happen. Not to mention Holder had nothing to with Bush et al not getting prosecuted. Then there is the whole issue of they would never get convicted.

For sure, and then maybe I’ll finally get that unicorn I was promised! .Also, aliens. When is the White House going to reveal the truth about Area 51? Any day now. Totally going to happen. Let’s definitely put our eggs in that basket…

No snark here.

Holder was placed in a political environment in which adequate evaluation of his deeds and accomplishemts was nearly impossible.

It underscores the tremendous value (in terms of ethnic ā€œanonymityā€) of white ā€œraceā€ membership. In terms of Holder’s defenders and detractors, there will be, in this political environment, a tough accounting.

Years ago, Ramsey Clark, Attorney General during the Johnson administration, expressed views which were beneficial to Civil Rights advocates. He aroused enmity on the Right at the time.

But the Right at the time did not have FOX. Did not have Rush. And whatever Clark opined or did, his color certainly did not work against him.

You may well be right and watch us re-elect the same sad fools that do not have it in them to work with anyone but their own egos…

I’m sure republicans will be furious about his fast resignation.

Can I have a hit of what ā€˜yer smokin’? Those three will never be prosecuted (maybe posthumously, a hundred years hence), but I like the sentiment.

They will undoubtedly spin this as Holder’s attempt to evade the investigation into [fill in the blank with whatever RWNJ, Issa-fodder you like].

That precedent was already set years ago when Ford pardoned Nixon. No former President or Vice President will ever be convicted of crimes, lest Chris Christie ends up becoming President or Vice.

We’ve known for some time now that Holder wanted to resign sometime this year, protestations to the contrary notwithstanding.

So who can President Obama nominate—and get confirmed----for the last two years of his presidency who will continue the good work Holder has done?

Darrel Issa will probably tout this as a big victory, and take credit for forcing him out, although I am sure he had nothing to do with Holder’s decision

Cue the champagne corks popping at Fox ā€œNews,ā€ and all of the commentators saying this is definitive proof that Holder helped cover up Fast and Furious and the IRS nothingburgers.

I was hoping he would remain for the duration of the current administration and put a stick in the eyes of the haters.
