I’m starting to hate that “TPM Breaking News” image. Always a massive tragedy.
Rural and impoverished, this beautiful, rolling SE corner of OH has everything from farmers to bikers to witches, anything’s possible.
Meh. More people dying from gun violence. Not that I don’t care, I do, but I just assume every morning somewhere a family or family member is being killed because there’s an easy to access gun around. It’s neither news nor breaking but I guess there’s a purpose to reminding us…maybe every article should be accompanied by a list of NRA/Congress members and their contact info.
The Good Guy with a Gun was on the scene but he didn’t do anything cause the other guys were LIBERALS.
I should just save the following as a macro:
Why weren’t they wearing body armor?
Where was the good family member with a gun?
If they’d all been armed, this could have been avoided.
Is the gun OK?
Now is not the time to talk about gun laws, gun control or gun safety.
It’s too soon to politicize this tragedy.
It’s a false flag by Obama designed to gin up support for his gun confiscation program.
I’m sure I left a few others out. Regardless, nothing will be done. Nothing ever is.
I’m about at the same point. It’s not that I don’t care, but people who believe that the second amendment allows everyone to fully arm him/herself have to acknowledge and confront the consequences of that belief. If this family doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment and did everything they could to elect officials who would address the gun culture, then I’m truly saddened.
Otherwise, this is what happens when everyone can get a gun, right?
NRA and NRA-owned Republican Party response:
#“Yaaaaaawn!”
Very Sad indeed, things are greening up nicely, the weather looks lovely and yet someone felt the need to do something like this. Maybe we need to start looking passed the fact that a gun was used and start tying these incidents to their root causes. Happy healthy people don’t do things like this no matter what kind of weapon they wield. Personally I think financial insecurity is the silent killer of our age.
Sad. But I wonder what it means to put a high school on “lockout”. Does that mean all the students who arrive are milling around outside as targets until they get transportation back home?
Why can’t these nuts just blow their OWN brains out and leave the rest of us alone?

That’s a reasonable assumption. With around 33,000 shootings per year, that’s about 90 per day. I suspect most happen at night, but I’m sure there are plenty of morning murders.
As Dan Hodges wrote in his viral Tweet: “In retrospect Sandy Hook marked the end of the US gun control debate. Once America decided killing children was bearable, it was over.”
I arrived at that conclusion independently. If that didn’t cause anything sensible to happen, what possibly could?
Maybe most of Congress, the SCOTUS, and Executive being wiped out by gunmen during the SOTU. And even the probably not.
To be fair and accurate, it’s about 33,000 gun deaths per year, there are many more shootings. And around 60% of those deaths are suicides, not murder. So, there are around 13,200 gun murders a year, or 36 per day. Not “feel good” numbers, but yeah…
Morning murders are the best though, you still have the rest of the day free for the coverup and fleeing.
Sadly, schools now drill for this procedure. It means the kids stay in their classrooms, lock & barricade doors, cover windows so that shooters cannot see where folks are. And then they wait.

Lockout = threat is outside the school (you’re literally trying to “lock out” the threat.)
Lockdown = threat is inside the school; all classroom doors are locked, lights are turned off in some cases. You’re trying to minimize the potential exposure to the threat.
Schools without fences are limited to lockdown procedures. In central CA, fences are usually limited to schools in high-crime neighborhoods.
EDIT: In some areas the terms are interchangeable.
Well, Wayne, in part is your fault. NRA certified instructors never teach the proper of shooting yourself. They’re always teaching people to shot human shaped paper targets. So people go away with the idea that guns are only good for shooting humans other than one self.
Here’s a thought, NRA certified instructors should teach the proper way of shooting your brains out, and they must practice it at least once to pass. I bet you gold against pigshit that we will so a lot less crazy people going off on shooting rampages. For better results lobby state Legislatures, so that they pass a law that requieres gun owners to take the NRA training.
Need more guns.
I hope you are actively working for candidates supporting a higher minimum wage and increased taxes to pay for expanded mental health care. But until such societal changes are made, guns make it way too easy for someone to kill himself and others. We can limit the access to guns NOW while we wait for solutions to problems of financial insecurity.
