Bwahahahahhahhaha!

Put a fork in him, he’s done even before he started!

So, does this mean he is asking for the votes of the freedom caucus without conditions?

He already looks tired. At least now he’ll never be prez. They are going to eat him alive.

So, Ryan thinks he can dictate the terms of his Speakership? He’s giving them until Friday for all of them to agree on him? OK - someone’s getting played…

It’s hard to envision the Freedom Caucus agreeing to his demands. They have marched this road for so long. I can’t imagine them turning back now.

“Paul Ryan To Seek Speakership.”

I really enjoyed his early work with Fred Gwynne and Al Lewis.

And his Lidsville gig with Charles Nelson Reilly was fabulous.

But how such a gifted young actor could turn into such a rightwing jackass is beyond me.

I thought Boehner meant tonight Ryan was going to finally come out.

And, truly, they have little reason to do so. What are they going to do come December? Turn to their insane base back home and say, “Well, you know guys, things are different now. Ryan’s in charge now and that changes EVERYTHING.”

Am I missing something? What leverage does he have against the FC to make this demand? Or is this just a convoluted way to say “Still a No”?

We can still pray for the best…

I think he’s setting the stage for “See? It’s not my fault!” when the Freedom Caucus torpedo him and thereby salvage his presidential hopes, since he made the effort and all…

Unless, come Friday, he gets to save face by proclaiming that “some” members of the House weren’t ready to “unify” yet and therefore he just wouldn’t be able to save the day.

What could possibly go wrong?:smirk:

I love to see the R party flopping around like fish in a wire basket.

Is Cruz still being promoted? Might cause some family friction

Because making excuses totally endears you to voters when you’re running for prez.

This should be fun to watch… It’s schadenfreude at it’s best. Comeuppance at it’s finest. It’s watching the monster eat the creator when everyone told him it was seriously freaking crazy to build that monster.

It’s just so damn sweet.

How many think he either won’t take the post at all, or that if he does he’ll quit the Speaker role before the 2016 elections?

laid out his conditions for running

Which are?

This is a smart move… he is asking for his party’s unanimous consent. He doesn’t want a majority or even just 219 republicans he is saying he wants every vote or he walks and doesn’t look back. He is saying that if any caucus or person opposes him or sets any conditions at all then THEY own the chaos. It sounds like it could work to me but there is a 50:50 chance that someone in the freedom caucus will decide that their petty little principles trump (in their own mind) the good of the country or the party. This is either going to get interesting or bloody. It will be interesting to see if the presidential candidates stay out of it… Especially Cruz.
