The name of the organization is The National Russian Association
Assuming they don’t use the money directly for political purposes, is it illegal for them to accept Russian money? I’m assuming not–this really stinks to high hell. Hypothetically (or perhaps not hypothetically) they could take billions from the Russians to support whatever Loesch and LaPierre do and foment discord in this country, push false news items…etc. and it could be completely legal, as long as they don’t use it in direct support of a candidate or for ‘lobbying’ purposes. Is that correct?
LaPierre: So, what’s the problem with accepting donations for the Crass Criminal Corpulent President Trump? After all, they came from one of his constituents.
eta: Just sent a little something to Ted Lieu’s campaign fund. I see it as a twofer donation, helps knock down both the NRA AND Trump.
Their Russia involvement might be the straw that breaks the NRA’s back.
thank you Citizens United
The NRA and Trump cadre are in for a rocky time when the Democrats retake the House next year.
Lieu seems to be one of the few that has a genuine interest in this torrid affair.
This may ultimately be the biggest story of 2018, even considering Trump dick-pics could be in the offing…
Why can’t they just say radical white Christian extremist Russian front organization when referencing the NRA?
I hope I live to see it - but I want to see side effects that include the downfall of Pence and McConnell.
Thank you conservative Supreme Court five member bloc for Citizens United. Remind everyone of exactly which group has put out all these ridiculous, antidemocratic decisions ever since Bush v. Gore.
It’s the Senate that votes on SCt nominees.
Actually, what I am thinking of, doesn’t even relate to citizen’s united, which as I understand it, is focused on limits on domestic spending on campaigns. My question is what is preventing a foreign government from underwriting a us organization whose main goal is to promote propaganda, if it is not expressly ‘political’? The NRA can pay its propagandists with Russian money, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones and Hannity could take Russian money and I’m guessing it wouldn’t be considered illegal as long as it wasn’t used for a ‘campaign’. I mean the misinformation campaign in this country spread well beyond social media–right wing media outlets are a huge part of it and seemingly unregulated.
If the Democrats somehow retake both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court can be saved from further radicalization by the Trump GOP.
I do not think Donald Trump is the first GOP politician to accept help from the Putin Regime and its official and unofficial intelligence services. And since neither Trump nor any of the GOP Majorities in Congress are showing any urgency to deal with ongoing Russian cyber interference in our elections, or to force the President to implement existing sanctions in the face of such ongoing interference, I would assume that they have a plan to avoid any such Democratic Majorities. The same way they smugly refused to vote on Obama’s nomination of Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court.
No, Dana Rorbacher is a good candidate for the first who took Putin’s money.
