Discussion: Rep. Hunter Rallies Behind Accused War Criminal: I Took 'A Picture Of The Body,' Too

“Eddie [Gallagher] did one bad thing that I’m guilty of too — taking a picture of the body and saying something stupid,” Hunter said

And look how well you turned out, eh Hunter? The Republican party has dug so far into that hole of evil corruption they are almost caricatures at this point.

I see he looking to join that illustrious pantheon of Republican ex-military “heros” -Greitens, Zinke, and Prince. The Mount Rushmore of thuggish warmongers.

So Hunter is outrageous.

Sometimes I think that we have an “outrage the libs” Industry. I am absolutely certain that this is more for Trump’s Base than anyone else.

The handwringing on our part is probably the vaunted “Independents”…

Does this draw them onto Trump’s Team?

I would rather, right now, be talking about how we are going to nail Trump. …

Now THAT’S an outrage-able topic…for some people

“Chief Gallagher decided to act like the monster the terrorists accuse us of being. He handed ISIS propaganda manna from heaven. His actions are everything ISIS says we are.”

“On March 30, President Trump intervened and ordered Gallagher transferred to “less restrictive confinement” after complaints from his supporters about his detainment. This was the first time a President directly intervened in an imprisonment conditions matter since President Richard Nixon intervened in favor of Lieutenant William Calley, one of the perpetrators of the My Lai Massacre.”

Headline is wrong.
Truer if it reads more like this: Corrupt Politician Hunter Looking for Pardon by Associating with War Crimes

The congressman must also be ok with Gallagher firing a weapon indiscriminately in a crowd and shooting a teenager.
As we commemorate Memorial Day note that most of the “Greatest generation” never went around bragging about war crimes.

The other day someone mentioned the movie Dave - I had never seen it so i watched it Saturday night. It was so quaint and innocent - it almost made me cry.

It does leave me wondering what else he may have done that he’s not confessing to. Perhaps a thorough investigation by the military is in order?

The Seals who bravely exposed Gallagher were also “war-fighters”.

If Trump had not slammed the door on release of information about him, we would be talking about this information, instead of weighing in on “stick-it-to-the-libs” stories like this.

Every day we allow Trump to, in essence, put this damning information about him in the rear-view-mirror is a day in which Mueller’s work–and the work of the Congressional Committees-- is further devalued.

And the evil of Barr’s machinations “arise” to the level of “legitimacy”

We’ve got some weeks and months left.

I’ve been watching West Wing on Netflix. When it was on I would watch it sporadically but when they moved the night it was on I missed it due to work or listening to music. It holds up well, the writing is suburb and makes you pine for those days of reasonable wonky discussions.

And the civilians Gallagher killed as if they were rats at a dump weren’t. They were innocent people trying to survive in a war zone who were killed by a psychopath. But some clown on FOX doesn’t like the idea of psychopaths in uniform being punished for killing civilians or prisoners, so Hunter doesn’t like it either, because irrational tribalism now supersedes any other consideration.

yes.

“…Hunter said Saturday that while he would “absolutely” support Trump pardoning Gallagher, he wanted Gallagher’s case to move forward so that the public can “see how disgusting the military justice system is when it’s run by lawyers…”

I can’t imagine just who Duncan Hunter thinks should run a military justice system? The enlisted men? KBR? The defendants themselves? Hunter is an admitted thief, criminal, and sociopath who believes he is immune to laws handed down by any authority. He disgraces the uniform which apparently doesn’t stand for much anyway according to him.

I can’t believe he was reelected in his district which is apparently mainly Deplorable mouth-breathers.

Took a rather dim view of them, in fact.

That is a hard one to grasp. The man is accused of far more than simply bad taste and trophy hunting. How anyone can support him this way is vile. Hunter’s morality meter is way out of calibration. But then, that seems to be the way with Republicans in these times. Even if self serving, Hunter should have the awareness to know what he has said is self destructive. But you know he will now double down facing criticism.

My son started watching it recently but had to stop - he said it was too depressing to see a government that works.

Some clown who is NOT, repeat NOT in any way, shape or form to be regarded as a “journalist”.

Maybe “flunky” (but “flunky” has an academic  connotation…like, “He flunked English class”)
