Discussion: Rep. Gabbard Missed Vets Hearing Because She Was Surfing With Reporter

Discussion for article #228480

Her office should have just said she was out surfing and everyone would have understood.

Stupid staff.

The lie is going to hurt her more than the truth. She should have just told the truth in the first place.

Well, for once Yahoo News breaks a story. Sorta.

Meh. This is another episode of “optics” pantwetting that will quickly be followed by some hypocritical IOKIYAR punditry. Scott Brown skips every fucking meeting on an issue and then runs on that issue and it’s all just fine and fucking dandy like he’s been deeply involved in that issue all along. This woman misses one meeting and the MSM will pillory her for it.

Well, aside from the scandal angle… the story that was posted about the ‘surfing interview’ over at Yahoo news is a pretty good read and the camera work is eye catching. Looks like they had a surfboard mount for at least one GoPro camera  http://goo.gl/QrWK6u

Story as read seems to veer away from headline. Must be an oversight.

Good thing there wasn’t a stained dress involved otherwise Chuck Todd and the other Belway trolls would poop their panties.

Well, now we know what FOX will be outraged about this afternoon.

And, not to put too big an excuse in her favor…but she does have a lot farther to travel than Scott Brown ever did, to get back to DC in a hurry.

I agree with you. This is one committee mtg. She probably thought an expose’ showing her in a fun and positive light, while getting free publicity before an election was a good deal. I don’t see this story as anything particularly scandalous if that’s what this article is trying to imply.

Worse yet, she is a vet herself.

Because who needs Vets, right? An interview is much more important.

Cowabunga!

As someone who surfed a lot when I was younger, I have no problem with this.

But if she was grandstanding about the issue, like McCain and some others do when they blow off meetings, then I would have a problem with it.

She shouldn’t have lied about it, though.

So we thank her for her service when she runs into a scheduling snafu?

As I said to that Civil Beat rag that ran this story, nothing could be more hurtful to a war veteran like Tulsi Gabbard than to be falsely accused of not caring about her fellow vets. Tulsi is the vets’ number one champion in Hawaii. The only reason Civil Beat can even run this story is because they have no idea what it’s like to be a veteran. They have no appreciation for the invisible bond that exists between the men and women who have fought arm in arm for our country. They have no entrance into our family of Americans who have voluntarily put our lives on the line for our country and our fellow troops. Civil Beat should stop making believe they care about vets or know anything about the issues that face us and stick to writing subjects they actually know something about.

It wasn’t supposed to be an either/or. If you want vets in Congress they have to see to publicity. Perhaps you see it as an attempt by the reporter to sabotage vets?
