Dingell was one of the fixtures in the house. I read he is now in Hospice. His has been a long life well spent.
I hope he pulls through. One of the biggest surprises I got online was from following his tweet feed, and realizing what a very smart, funny guy he is.
He might just be ready.
He was diagnosed with prostate cancer a year ago and declined treatment.
An excellent congressman and public servant. I loved reading his tweets after Trump was installed.
He will be missed
His Twitter feed has been pure gold.
A lot of the newly-minted majority D’s could learn some invaluable lessons in oversight by perusing some of his famed Dingell-grams. Striking fear into the hearts of executive branch bureaucrats for decades. I wish him well.
The epitome of service. 60 years. He either lays in state at the Capitol or we should riot.
You don’t have to be a genius to read that URL and guess which vote he says.
THAT is how long and well he served.
A fine public servant and funny as hell. Understands Twitter like he invented it. Hoping for recovery or a sense of a life well lived, because he deserves it.
Seems I’m a good test-taker and yet no genius. Story of my life.
Her husband was a monument in, and to, the House of Representatives.
He now seems to be nearing the end of his long and very productive life. I hope that it is easy and peaceful for him, and–as much as it can be–for his family.
[ach, thought I was replying to @sniffit…]
Yup, passed that easy test too. And I love him all the more for how he characterized it:
“The one of which …I’m most proud and which I think was the most important was the vote I cast on the ’64 civil rights bill that allowed citizens to vote. You remember the country was being torn apart by the denial to our people the right to vote and happily that began a process that cured it so that a black American citizen is now sitting in the White House,” Dingell said.
The one that allowed citizens to vote. Our people. No sense of beneficence to some separate class of poor, downtrodden beings, just stating what he might have tweeted was the moronically obvious thing to do. I’ll second that demand for the Capitol.
Sorry to hear. It’s always tough, but he had a mighty good run. Bless him for the good he did over the years.
John Dingell was my rep and his wife is now my rep. They have worked so hard for the 12th District. Prayers.
I’m not sure what you mean, but Debbie Dingell is my rep. She is excellent at representing the 12th District. She is well qualified and had a long career with GM before she ran for rep… I was at the Michigan Democratic Party Convention last Saturday. She came to our caucus before the Convention and gave a great speech. Then she gave a speech before the whole Convention. We love her here in the 12th District.
I wish him well. He’s got to be a tough fellow to live with that last name! Lucky his parents didn’t want to make him really tough, name him Richard and call him Dick!
I was not commenting on Debbie Dingell, but on her husband’s long and illustrious career. I regret if I did not make that clear.
