Discussion: Rep. Aaron Schock's Communications Director Resigned

I like the no tie, open collar, pocket-handkerchief look. Should serve him well in his next job as a Cruise Director.

Think he will get a Cruise Director job?

I believe that Mr. Cole is a preacher of some kind. A half-assed one, apparently.

Not if he has to interview.

Can’t take photos, really? How elitist. Enjoy your ostrich feathers, goofball. I think my grandma would’ve loved your style.

So the 2105 comment about building a mosque on the Whitehouse grounds was cause for firing him but the 2013 comment about blacks being animals didn’t raise an eyebrow. Telling.

He committed the mortal sin: Saying out loud what they all think/say in private. Obviously he had to go.

Ha, I just noticed, the guy was Director of Communications! Good Lord, its hard to find good help.

Anybody besides me suspect that the real reason for firing him had nothing to do with anything he posted, but because he was stupid enough to invite a reporter in to see the Downton Abbey office decor?

It’s been brought up before here, I think the last time some GOP staffer sent out a racist Tweet (I forget). But ā€œCommunications Directorā€ is often a title applied to people in certain firms/companies who do nothing more than Tweet banal boilerplate talking points in-between micromanaging writers and designers. They’re usually in said position because they’re old golf buddies of the CEO or similar. I’ve worked in advertising close to 15 years now and you’d be amazed at the simplest things I’ve had to explain to people holding that title.

You might even say that it came as something of a schock.

It’s not simply that he personally believed this crp. It’s that he–the PR guy, no less–is so deep in the bubble that he honest-to-God didn’t realize that it was offensive.

The problem with the Rs isn’t just that reasonable people disagree with their policies. It’s that they have no reality check. It’s like some mass psychosis.

I guess this means I don’t get to type Shock’s Spoxx any more. Bummer.

Cue the wingnut whines of P.C. persecution.

Pity he didn’t fall into one of those ā€œtourist trapsā€ in the glacier.

Yup; and let it remain so. I’m glad they’ve gotten so secure in that bubble that this stuff keeps popping out and revealing to everyone else exactly what they are.

You heard me groan, right?

I am schocked, I tells ya, schocked that Little Aaron didn’t begin his mea culpa with, ā€œIf anyone was offendedā€¦ā€.
And yes, he’s still an asshole.

Communications director for a politician is a euphemism for ā€œchief of propagandaā€. I expect Cole’s next stop to be a minor gig on Fox News. In fact, I suspect his Facebook posts to be a sort of audition.
