Discussion: Relegated To Fringe Platforms, White Nationalists Stuck In Own Echo Chamber

You’re right. I want those a-holes publically shaming themselves and their families and friends. Online isn’t a good place to confront this filth either. Let them see the light of day. Then make them feel unwelcome in America.

Cody Wilson claims that he "personally was “not right-wing.” Yet he loses $12K a month on his “passion project” - a website named “Hatereon”. Whatever, dude.

Like it or not, that’s how it works. In order to fulfill what you’re saying, we’d be talking about government intervention that would force private entities into partnerships they don’t want. That’s just not feasible. Hate groups and otherwise obnoxious people are not protected classes and businesses have every right to deny them their business or services. It’s the reason TPM has moderators and regularly deletes known troll accounts. Just the appearance of associating itself with a neo-Nazi organization could destroy a business by chasing other users away.

It does. PayPal, Amazon, or any individual internet-based company isn’t the whole internet. They’re just individual businesses choosing who they want to do business with. If a pro-Nazi hosting company wants to form in order to pick up those types of customers, they can. That’s actually what this article is about.

That’s what I was taught as a political science major and as a law student.

Nazi - that is NOT free speech and must be outlawed in its entirety. Time to wake up and truly honor those who fought and those died in WW II to stop the Holocaust and to defeat Hitler and his Nazi white nationalist movement!

White nationalism - that is American apartheid. It needs to be defined as hate speech and outlawed - PERIOD.

White Supremacy - that is racism pure and simple. It needs to be defined as hate speech and hateful and outlawed - PERIOD.

Make America Equal - it is about time! END RACISM NOW!

So in order to respect the fringe’s right to free speech, you will be willing to let them hang a few banners from your house and put swastika signs in your lawn?

[Hatreon founder Cody] Wilson, whose primary occupation is running a company that develops and publishes open-source gun designs that can be 3-D printed, told TPM he was “sympathetic” to the “alt-right” but personally was “not right-wing.”[/quote]

“I’m not a Nazi! I"m a Nazi sympathizer!”

Well if all the deplorables are in a few sites, then you can release a worm that targets those sites and wipe out their laptops and mobile devices.

I happen to agree with the EFF that this is a slippery slope. I’m not sure I want corporations deciding what speech is acceptable. They are invariably self-serving.

Does that also apply to a bakery that doesn’t want to make a wedding cake for a same-sex couple?

Just playing Devil’s Advocate, but…

There are limits. Proverbially, you can’t shout Fire! in a crowded theater.

And an internet corporation has a much right to ban right-wing hate speech from its web sites & forums as bar owners have to ban Nazis and people shouting Death to Jews! from their establishments.

Wilson claimed that he spends “$12 grand a month” of his own money to
fund Hatreon as a passion project, saying the site “doesn’t make money”
and estimating it has approximately 900 registered users.

Do those numbers even make sense? $12,000 to host 900 users? I can’t imagine the traffic they create is $12,000 worth.

What’s he meant is he claims $12,000 of deductions every month.

I wondered about that, too. I’m thinking that the $4.95/month hosting plan would do just fine.
