Asheville is considering a measure to switch from all city council seats being at-large to a district system. Currently there are six Democrats and no Republicans, but at least one district would likely send up a Republican. Unsurprisingly, Republicans in the state house are attacking this good faith effort for political reform because they don’t want to allow a precedent and love having liberal municipalities as a foil.
