Discussion: Recounts Ordered In Florida's Razor-Thin Senate, Governor Races

If Gillum wins, let’s hope he puts out an RFP for a completely new, statewide election system and adds mail ballots. The machine spec must include paper trails. We have enough experts to help write the spec. It could be a model for the nation.

I answered my own question with this. How can they be that fucking stupid.

Well well well. I haven’t been sanguine about the O’Rourke election results before now and now I’m suspicious as fuck:

I find that as I get older I make elementary mistakes (their vs there, for instance), that I never made before. I guess it is just part of my incipient dementia. I usually catch them on review before I post, but not always. Thanks.

Yeah, I too think the disfunctional ballot layout led to the broward county senate undervote. The question I want answered is: “who is responsible for that ballot layout”. It’s natural to blame county-level officials, but we don’t know at this point. If it was imposed from the outside then I do blame county level personnel for not raising hell and the local democratic operatives for not making their voters aware of the problem. Is the ballot document kept a secret until election day?

Obviously, you should feel free to blame those “local Democratic operatives.” Why? Because they never learn. (Keep reading.)

And yes, you should feel free to blame Brenda Snipes, Ph. D., Supervisor of Elections in Broward County. She has been in charge there since 2003; and in the ensuing years has allowed (overseen? ignored?) a number of awful ballot designs, some of which have even sparked lawsuits.

As for the ballot now in question: it specifically violates guidelines you might expect an experienced “Supervisor of Elections” to know about. Well, not Dr. Snipes, apparently.

Here’s the relevant excerpt:

That’s from “Effective Designs for the Administration of Federal Elections,” published by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (June, 2007).

And yet, here we are, year after year, stuck with incompetence.

Florida, thy name is mud.

The image of Scott’s reptilian eyes laser-beaming ballots with fascistic faux-stidiousness recalls this fella:

Except scalier.

Now I’m angry all over again. The saying is “never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity”, but repeated willful stupidity that always damages the same party is enemy action, not stupidity.

Actually, the Republicans made that clear in 2000… I think Justice Kavanaugh helped the Republicans then, too.

Sorry, but there’s more: the position that Brenda Snipes occupies is … an elected one!

And since 2003, she has been voted in four times!

And do you recall my mentioning the U. S. Election Assistance Commission? She has served on it!

(Are you weeping yet?)
