For the record, Sen. Jeff Merkley did just read that letter on the Senate floor not long ago and no one objected, nor was he red-carded or unable to continue to speak about Sessions from here on out like Eliz. Warren was last night for doing exactly the same thing. Go figure.

Posted this on another thread as well.

Cannot figure out McConnell’s angle. He’s very calculated.

I don’t know how this is playing out in the MSM now, but I so really hope the letter will be read and talked about repeatedly on air and this GOP authoritarian move will backfire mightily (taking vital signs of justice…).

MSNBC is playing it up, CNN isn’t.
Strangely, MSNBC has got a different take on Yemen than does CNN…

Like what?

imo, he’s as dumb as he looks…and not savvy at all. Reminds me of someone who has spent his whole life stepping on one person or another to get to where he’s at, and not by doing good work or trying to get a leg up using his amazingly good looks either.

He may know a bunch of rules but when to use them without serious blowback is not particularly in his wheelhouse. Like Trump, he chases the 20-25% racist white base voters in the Republican party. I’m sure Kentucky has plenty of those to keep getting him elected…And he’s never been particularly respectful to Dems, even when he was in the minority and was supposed to be Harry Reid’s good friend. He’d still say the most unkind thing towards Harry Reid in public and would just as easily try to stab him in the back if and when he had the chance. Going back on his word is his most noticeable characteristic in my mind. Everyone claims he’s a good fighter but he really is a grand destroyer of that comity he seems to hold Dems to. He’s a manipulative, unethical prick who has allowed the Senate to descend to the level of the House Pubes worst tactics by that rump caucus of teabagging idiots.

This is how unethical this asshole is…So who is he to say Trump has any conflicts of interest as President? One hand washes the other in this case.

NBC says the raid was to capture a enemy leader, CBS, CNN are reporting the hard drive/cell phone goal the Trumps have stated as the mission goal…

I thought the GOP War on Women wasn’t a thing? :frowning:

Don’t hold back

They got the power. They’re using it. With power comes responsibility.

With the GOP, with power comes the opportunity to ramrod, silence, and persecute the opposition.

For those interested in the subject of black oppression, I highly recommend Slavery By Another Name by Douglas Blackmon. It details the methods used to continue slavery from the end of the Civil War to WW II and as you might expect, Alabama played a very prominent role in the process…arrests for minor offenses and then releasing them to work for businesses at little or no wages to “repay their debts.” The end results included working in dangerous conditions for little or no pay at US Steel mills in Birmingham, and in underground coal mines where many were chained to the wall when not working and where many of them died with little notice. Chilling.

In fact, some of the methods used during those years are today still being used…putting blacks in jail for minor offenses and then essentially forcing them into menial jobs to repay the costs of their incarceration.

Jeff Sessions is a poster boy for the Alabama good old boy political and legal system. He will be approved by a Senate that values “collegiality” and because, like DeVos, any Republican thinking about opposing him knows they would be torn asunder if they turned out to cast the deciding vote. You will see NO profiles in courage and once he and Bannon get to work, things are going to get decidedly vile and nasty in many different arenas from civil and labor rights to consumer and environmental protection.

Sorry. I get so exasperated if I stay on these threads for too long without taking a break. I will slowly back away from the keyboard with my hands up. I give up.

I get something going on the stove that’s needs regular checking…
Remember, Mitch is tied to President Bone Spur for all time, and Dubya and before that he sold Kentucky’s blue grass pride to the Saudis…pretty gruesome historical legacy.

Attention Media:
I’d still like to see a photo of the MLK bust in “it’s place of honor” in Trump’s Oval…

Wait… this was sent to the Chair of the Judiciary Committee. Shouldn’t it be an official part of the Senate record? Since when can a senator be sanctioned for reading from the official record?
