I want to address the media claims that the FBI asked for additional resources for the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. I am not aware of any such request. Moreover, I consulted my staff and Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, and none of them recalls such a request.
Obviously that goes to the question of obstruction in the matter of Comey’s firing. I don’t think it’s probative but maybe does weaken it, at least insofar as it’s been presented in the media. Still unbelievably boneheaded timing at the very least. Need to hear from Comey on that one.
Rosenstein is a backstabber - pretty much like Trump and cannot be trusted to run the Justice Department without Trump telling him what to do!
What Rosenstein did was just disgusting - the lowest!!!
I don’t know the legal term, but using your legal reasoning to justify something you know is unethical or illegal is a huge no-no.
I don’t see any way in which Rosenstein’s explanation answers that point.

And there it is. No cover your ass is complete without at least one “I can’t recall” but Rosenstein has taken it to a whole new level: “We can’t recall”. Yeah, no back room coordination there, I’m sure.
I hope Gen. McMaster is watching the pile of ashes that was once Rosenstein’s reputation. It’s not to late to learn.
I dont think so. I think Rosenstein got screwed in that someone probably came up to him and told him to provide a legal analysis of Comey’s behavior, and he took it at face value. He probably wasn’t expecting Trump to be stupid enough to actually fire Comey, and definitely not expecting his rationale to be used as justification (for one thing, the rationale provided by him was the opposite of EVERYTHING Trump and Sessions have publicly stated about Comey’s behavior). Does he lose points for being stupid enough to believe that the Trump administration wouldn’t do something ridiculously stupid? Is he an idiot for not recognizing that the President of the US is literally a man baby, and surrounded by a bunch of people who I will generously call lackeys? Yeah. But
The reality is that his analysis as a rebuke of Comey’s behavior was extremely sound, and in almost any other circumstance letting Comey go would have been an inarguable decision. But it doesn’t work for Trump, because Trump and Sessions publicly praised Comey for the behavior they were ostensibly sacking him for. And adding the fact that Comey was investigating Trump, and Trump was trying to halt those investigation, just made it way worse.

Well, the problem is that Rosenstein himself said that he knew before he wrote it that Trump was planning on firing Comey. So the question is, what did he think that Drumpfie was going to do with his memo?? Rosenstein is not stupid, he had to have an idea that this was going to be used to buttress the firing.

Me, too. Maybe skepticism has overtaken all of my reasoning at this point, but Mueller may not be the “savior” everyone claims.
This “justification” is really pathetic on its face: he was asked to provide cover for the firing, he did, everything he wrote can be true but the memo was to provide Trump cover. He knew it, he did it, he stands by it. Good to know: someday he should go down for it.
What I want to know now is what Rosenstein knew and when. Like was he aware of Comey’s concerns about White House pressure on him.
