Discussion: READ: Manafort Files Sentencing Memo In Virginia Case

“back fraud” ?

You must be confusing Manafort with Roger Stone

They seem to be arguing it’s ok if you don’t get caught and Manafort only got caught because there was a Special Counsel investigation (that is trying to “vilify” him). But I only read the opening pages.

Manafort is asking for a prison sentence of 51-63 months in the case. He said the sentencing guideline outlined by the probation office of 19-24 years […] is “clearly disproportionate to the offense conduct for which Mr. Manafort was convicted.”

If you can’t serve the time, then don’t commit the crime.

(If Johnnie Cochrane didn’t say this, then he would have, eventually.)

That right there proves you’re wiser than I am.

The irony of Manafort inventing the “lock her up” mantra after joining the Trump campaign; a joining that ends up placing him in jail for life.

It’s like some modern variant of a greek tragedy.

"The aim of tragedy, Aristotle writes, is to bring about a “catharsis” of the spectators — to arouse in them sensations of pity and fear, and to purge them of these emotions so that they leave the theater feeling cleansed and uplifted, with a heightened understanding of the ways of gods and men. This catharsis is brought about by witnessing some disastrous and moving change in the fortunes of the drama’s protagonist "

10 years has a nice solid ring to it.
Maybe then some of the other assholes will start to take this mess seriously.

In that case I guess Manafort’s saga must not be tragedy: I feel absolutely no pity or fear.

Well, I’m on cell phone so we might be even

Manafort inserted himself into Cheeto’s campaign. Boo F**king Hoo. Don’t drop the soap in the shower Paul. (or so I have been told…)

Has it begun to dawn on Paulie he is going to die in prison? Or does he still think, somehow, he’s going to beat the system and come out on top?

Shorter Paul Manafort: “I’m a rich white guy, so therefore I should skate to a Club Fed.”

Manafort was a highly successful crook for many years. That earns him the briefest of sentences. Success counts!

That’s worth another 5 years, by itself.

Prison is full of scintillating theories why the convicts don’t belong there.

It is said that Manfort is a “generous” and “loyal” family man, who also happens to be a lying, criminal crook. He doesn’t deserve a shorter sentence.

It’s a paraphrasing of some of the lyrics from the song “Keep Your Eye on the Sparrow,” which, as sung by Sammy Davis, Jr., was the theme song to Baretta.

Manafort was convicted despite the fact that he was associated with Trump, not because of it. There are 10 hung counts to prove it. Manafort is right, his sentence should not depend on the identity of the prosecutor. In my mind his sentence should be LONGER than 19-24 years, and in the Supermax facility in Florence, CO for his own protection.

This should get him an EXTRA five years for chutzpah. The lawyers can keep him company in the pokey.

It also describes his career — which included work on several GOP presidential campaigns, as well as for controversial politicians abroad — “as a life advancing American ideals and principles.”
