Discussion: READ: House GOPers Release Transcript Of Interview With Comey

Not even ten pages in, and Matt Gaetz is already a huge douchey asshole.

I read some of the Gowdy and then bailed. Still banging that same old drum, looking for the imaginary conspiracy that will kiss the boo-boo of the real conspiracy and make it all better. Pathetic and contemptible. All because two citizens expressed the opinion that Hillary Clinton was a reasonable prospective President and Trump was a terrible one. That’s really it. Un-be-liev-a-ble.

And that’s after the first five pages were taken up with personal introductions.

Yes, 11 pages in and they have only introduced themselves, the witness and his attorney, and argued about the agreement not to overtly politicize the hearing by making statements of half-truths (or completely out of context quotations) while the hearing is still proceeding. (They just cannot wait to find a microphone to start spreading nonsense about an FBI conspiracy to get Trump, and to exonerate Hillary.)

. . . and there is the sound bite they want: Clinton Espionage Act (but Comey was quick to catch the innuendo) . . . and they suddenly seem very sensitive when he mentions Russia, even in a completely different context.

(There seems to be a typo on p. 24:

Mr. Comey. Do you recall seeing the phrase “Trump campaign” in that initiation document?

I presume that has to be Mr. Gowdy who asked the question, otherwise Comey is speaking multiple parts. (I also presume that it should be Gowdy because it is a very stupid question to ask, basically asking if you saw a particular phrase in a document that you already said that you don’t recall having seen at all.)

Now they can add those ten pages to the three pages of their accomplishments of the past two years.

I think I’ll pass. I hope Karma doesn’t.

I’m not washing precious moments of my life to read this dreck, so I hope someone can summarize it for me.

Not only am I not going to read this, I’m not going to read about other people reading it. It’s a distraction exercise, pure and simple.

I think I can save you some effort simply by summarizing that it sheds no new light on almost anything. It was a waste of time for everyone involved, and clearly the Republicans were just trying to find something to use to feed the base in regard to all of the supposed conspiracies that keep them from achieving their dreams of Hillary in jail and Donald Trump being glorified as a national hero. Republicans were mostly stupid and obvious in their questions. Democrats made some effort to present a more reasonable side of the issues. And Comey was cautious in his answers, revealing nothing significant that we have not already heard. It is really a 235 page nothing burger, unless you really like reading that sort of thing.

Very soon the country will be able to see the difference between a real Congressional investigation that uncovers volumes of evidence pointing to actual crimes, and sham investigations like this where crazy conspiracy theories are presented then repeated endlessly while witnesses sit, roll their eyes and attempt to explain reality to a bunch of nutjobs incapable of comprehending anything. Will America notice the difference? We’ll see.

Does anyone know where Gowdy got this “Clinton Espionage Act” title from? Did he make it up out of thin air?

Maybe Alex Jones’ InfoWars: https://www.infowars.com/hillary-could-face-espionage-charges/ and https://www.infowars.com/attorney-hillary-could-be-charged-with-at-least-13-crimes/ (Only for the strongest of stomachs) I presume Gowdy means to invoke an act of espionage committed by Hillary rather than a law named after her, although maybe they will give that a try in the few days remaining in their lame duck session.

Sort of. The undercurrent was about whether Clinton was investigated under the Espionage Act:

I agree with this, but there were a few interesting little flutters, such as the one you see on pp. 31-32.

Oh yeah, that one. the one In 32 point font, with double line spacing and with the margins all squeezed in, and with Giant, 60 point headers. Oh, and footnotes, and the date and title and page numbers on each page. It’s a wonder they could even squeeze in "Tax Cuts for the Rich and “Separated Families at the Border” and “Teargassed Children”, what with all that other stuff taking up so much room…
