that Manafort’s then-impending incarceration on New York City’s infamous Rikers Island would damage his health.

Interesting way of phrasing he might not come out alive.

This nation has a vested interest in Manafort suffering. Everyday of “depression” and gout and misery is another step towards flipping.

Likewise, we need him healthy and alive.

the 70-year old Republican operative also faced depression and anxiety since being incarcerated in June 2018

Being incarcerated leads to depression and anxiety for a lot of people.

I wonder if there are any inmates in Rikers with health or safety issues? Nahhh, probably not…

“In light of New York’s position, and Mr. Manafort’s unique health and safety needs, the Department determined to err on the side of caution by keeping Mr. Manafort in federal custody during the pendency of his state proceedings.”

Every soft, elderly, ailing inmate in the NY penal system that suffers from occasional bullying or outright assaults will be surprised to discover Manafort is unique in his potential for suffering the same.

While on the surface this does not seem too controversial, the question is why would the DAG put so much attention to 1 inmate? It just has a bad look to it.

The cynical side of me thinks that they want to keep Manafort close to prevent him from ratting out to people as he might be more accessible to reporters and other investigators in NYS custody, and they feel confident they can keep tabs on SDNY/FBI if he is in federal custody.

Manafort is unlikely to get a pardon, so they’re trying to keep him reasonably comfortable so he stays quiet through 2020.

Manafort’s attorneys will tell him what happened in SCOTUS and will encourage him to take another stab at cooperation. Ethically, that’s what the lawyer has to do given that any intellectually honest assessment of the situation tells you his chances of a pardon are slim to none. As attorneys they can’t get involved in things that would be obstruction, especially given the scrutiny to Dowd’s conduct.

A little exercise of political will by the Dems on impeachment and I think Paulie could sing like a canary and lead them to the stashes buried in different places.

So, the DOJ is now acting on behalf of Manafort’s defense attorney? It must be nice to have connections in such high places. It appears as though some people really are more equal than others.

Seems that New York did not demand he be transferred to Rikers, just that he get to the courts from wherever he was incarcerated. The Deputy A.G. should’ve known better than to get involved with this. The whole thing smells of Barr interfering.

That 1 inmate still has competent attorneys actively badgering the DoJ on his behalf. But yeah, he’s not the only one.

I was just going to say he could avoid all of this if he would just tell the truth.

I’m betting that Manafort knows enough to sink a lot of people in the 2016 Trump campaign. Barr and his Trumper buddies need to keep him close. Manafort will stay in Federal custody until after the election. Can NY sue the Department of Fixers over this?
