Discussion for article #227959
This seems less damning than the ESPN report.
Seriously? WTF difference does it make whether you saw a video of the assault? Within days, hours, weeks, whatever, you were told by law enforcement and Ray Rice himself what happened in the elevator.
Someone help me here. Does an assault change in magnitude because it was on video? NFL and the Ravens decided on a 2 game suspension based on the info it received. Then the video is shown to the public and suddenly Ray Rice is banned. Is that NFL policy now, suspension for bad acts, unless they are on film then you are banned. What a bunch of clowns.
Yeah, I listened to his statements live, and he was as defensive as they come. Fact of the matter is, as he stated himself, no one expected anything other than a 2 game suspension for domestic violence. So, what’s he saying is that the NFL, the team, whoever, knows there’s a problem with players hitting their wives, girlfriends, fiancées, whomever, and 2 games is more than enough. Bottom line is these guys don’t give a shit about anything.
And don’t believe for a second Ray Rice is out forever. That’s just another lie.
why do they make these contorted / nuanced / parsed statements - when they have to know - NOBODY believes the statements that are this awkward & nuanced.
This is like J-Law claiming the videos are faked/photoshopped AFTER her lawyer sends the cease and desist letter to 4chan and reddit.
Having chosen not to watch it, and to make every effort to be unaware of its content, this doesn’t do much to repair the Ravens’ image. It’s the kind of non-denial denial the NFL learned from the Nixon gang.
In deference to Ben Franklin, the more they touted their morality, the faster we hid our spoons (this was in the day when spoons were made from sterling silver…)
It’s astonishing that this is the best PR the fucking NFL can come up with to bury their incompetent attempts to put this story to bed.
They simply cannot generate a credible explanation for how badly they have fucked up this entire incident.
It looks like lying is also a team sport. The whole damn group of them are in on the cover up. Only the owners and Goodell and the league people go with the story that they have concocted. It sounds like a right wing talking point. Somehow they are all in unison now?
Guys making 44 million a year and up lying to protect their golden eggs seems much more plausible than the facts. Ray Rice admitted what he did to them and they chose to minimalize and hope to let it pass. That they are caught doing so and lying like adolescent children now does their credibility great harm. Obviously, the money means more than anything.
The point by point denial is proof that they aren’t willing to admit fault of any kind and will do whatever they have to do to keep their power. That isn’t even unusual.
