Discussion: Rare Conviction Made In Shooting Of Black Teen By Virginia Officer

It’s interesting that the VA Officer’s lawyer wanted the victim’s juvenile record unsealed, but then this officer’s previous shooting kept out of court.

because they all recognize that policing is difficult…

Yes.

and violent

No! This is wrong! Why should we all “recognize that policing is…violent”? There may be times when violence is called for, or thrust upon the officer without warning, but the idea that “policing is violent” should make every person recoil in horror.

You know what is violent by definition? Warfighting. Our soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines - the combat-trained ones in any case - have jobs that are violent by their very nature. Policing should not be treated the same; doing so leads to very scary outcomes for society.
