Discussion: Rand Paul's Wife: Rand Isn't Sexist—His 'Whole Family Is Full Of Strong Women'

If you’re explaining you’re losing.

If Rand’s wife has to keep defending him that he isn’t sexist something is wrong with that picture. I think that the best way for Rand is to prove that he isn’t sexist by not talking over woman reporters when they ask him a question. DUH! I think that that would be better than having his wife having to defend her husband every time he does something sexist.

By the end of his campaign, we are going to think she is running for office, not Rand!

Problem is, every indication is that RANDY does have issues with the ladies.

I’m pretty sure he’s just losing, the explaining part is just denial.

OMG, I don’t believe it!!! My family is full of strong women too!! That’s amazing! What a co-inky-dink. No screwy-haired little Napoleon-esque men, thank God…All big, manly types who voiced their own thoughts and held their own ground…well, except the drinkers, womanizers and gamblers.

IMO we have to be circumspect about the notion of Senator Randy showing sexist behavior. President Obama has been observed showing behavior that can be described as sexist. There’s a portrayal by Ron Suskind in his book about the Obama administration’s responses and actions on the financial crisis that suggests the Obama as president and other key males among his advisors as well behaved in a sexist manner towards economist Christy Romer when she was chair of the CEA; that this happened most memorably in the context of planning out how big the STIM package had to be and how much the administration felt it could reasonably expect Congress to support; that it happened more than once; that at least once the president actually or effectively ‘shsshed’ Romer; that noted top class economist and adviser (and no slouch himself as a sexist even misogynist) Larry Summers observed the behavior, and indeed may have participated in it or been partly responsible for bringing it about, which has been softened by Summers later going to Romer and telling her in his opinion she was correct in both her appreciation of how much STIM was needed and that the president needed to push Congress not pre-settle at some number that already conceded part of the debate to Republicans and blue dog Dem conservatives; that this wasn’t the only example of possible sexism in the White House or indeed the Oval Office.

But here’s the thing: Obama early on as president voiced a lot of bullshit on a lot of fronts, including abortion, right to choose, LGBT rights including marriage, immigration, and a lot of that he later shed in favor of more progressive positions that were decidedly mainstream Dem at least and in some instances left of that and well into the progressive comfort zone (eg. net neutrality, the latest labor secretary nomination, close to half all his federal courts nominations, Fed appointments including most outstandingly the new chair). And in the end, Obama’s got a record of both his SCOTUS nominees, his only Fed chair, lots of key cabinet positions including State, Health and Homeland Security, Immigration, Environment, his chosen successor to AG Holder, and it’s really hard to see a president Randy Paul doing that, maybe any of it, and certainly not the big posts except maybe State (Return of Condi, I fear; Oh, the air was so, so remarkable …).

THAT’S what matters, not Randy getting testy with women reporters. Randy has a policy platform that is NUTS, that comes from nutbars and wingnuts and would be entrusted to white male crackpots to lead to implement. THAT’S what matters. THAT’S why is he simply not electable in 2016. Ironically, his having a rep as a sexist may well help him with the Teapster, Tenther, Von Mises, gunterbating, white supremacist crowd, but I seriously doubt i will stand out in that bunch.

Again, I have to say she isn’t very bright. One has nothing to do with the other. He can be surrounded with strong women and STILL be sexist!

That’s kind of the problem, though. He’ll talk over any reporter who isn’t kissing his ass (hello, Chuck Todd). It’s just now when he does it over anything but a white male it’s seen as a specific slight against a particular group.

Which is a pretty hilarious that he’s been backed into such an obvious trap already. But being a narcissisitic asshole made this pretty much inevitable.

Binders?

She’s basically on “The Good Wife” track here–her hubby has been shown to act like a complete jackass around women, so it’s her wifely duty to try to make him look like less sleazy.

In the TV show version, the wife in question practically slaps her husband’s face off his head for putting her in that position. Sadly, Mrs. Rand will probably not do that, although God knows, he could use it.

“This is not who Rand is a s a person”

Hmmmmmm. But it is who Rand is a sleazy politician?

How to run for President

Part I: Making it official

  1. Dig a deep hole and jump in it
  2. Announce your candidacy
  3. Do some digging
  4. Send your wife out to find some rope to pull you out of the hole

She has to know better because its obvious. Ryand may be a jerk with men also but that is yet another problem and not the same as his female problem.

How can anyone look a the film of him shushing the lady reporter or whining about being asked questions by the lady reporters and not see that he has some dominance and superiority issues?

What a shitty position Mrs. Paul is in. She can stand by her man and compromise her own principles, or she can not and compromise his weak ass run for the Presidency that would ruin her chance at being the first lady coincidentally. She can also get continually sucked into the image and the defense of it kneejerk reaction whether she is being honest with herself or at all. That will consume her and gut her although she would likely smile the whole time while she allowed herself to be reduced to a team liar. The bare naked honest truth she can not speak, so Ryand makes his woman a liar.

Well… one thing is quite obvious… She does seem to be channeling Rand when it comes responding to questions.

Have you ever noticed that Rand’s method of answering questions (even friendly ones) is to harvest two or three words from the question and then construct a generally true sentence that is only tangentially related to the original question? If your goal is to be able to claim that you answered the question and at the same time shut down any follow up questions, this is as good of a method as any.
