Discussion: Rand Paul To Teach Course At GWU On 'Dystopian Visions'

I wonder if the class will be subject to Charles Pierce’s “Five-Minute Rule.” The Pauls sound rationals and reasonable for the first five minutes of a conversation; after that, it’s every man for himself.

Did Rand Paul’s dystopian visions, with an assist from multiple bong hits, lead him and his male friend to transport an apparently unwilling female college classmate to a stream where he required her to bow down before Aqua Buddha ?
Maybe this course will resolve the mystery.

That should be an easy class to teach. Hold it from 1 - 2 PM, make them watch Spicy’s presser, and go smoke some Aqua Buddha in the back while the kiddies crap their pants…

Money isn’t the issue here; he’s not qualified.

Yeah. There’s a difference between raising demons and winning lotteries.

hahahahahahahahahahahah You have to be careful whom you invoke - they just might appear.

If you’re looking for a dystopian vision, you could do a lot worse than Rand Paul.

“I think dystopian novels are a discussion of politics, and sort of what happens if you let a government accumulate too much power,” Paul told Vice.
Cause too much government is clearly the problem in stories like "Mad Max."

Wait. GOPer Rand Paul will be teaching GOP politics as a dystopian vision? Who would have thought that?

Not familiar with grants are ya?

Let me try a very modest Richard Pryor imitation: “Dystopian visions? You talking about that shit on top of your head?”

Hammie’s familiar with trolling, that’s about it.

Ah but Dr Paul is quite qualified to teach about dystopian visions. See, he graduated from Duke University School of Medicine in 1988 and he specialized in ophthalmology. He’s an eye doctor. And a republican politician. Taken together what better qualifications can there be to teach a course in dystopian visions?

Pretty much obvious right there. He’s calling Doctor Rand Paul (graduate of Duke School of Medicine, 1988 specialty as an eye doctor) “Unqualified” to teach about dystopian visions. Yup that’s missing the mark while trolling.

Being a Senator is hardly full time employment tho the salary would speak otherwise for sure. They took 6 weeks off in July/August/September and just Monday came back from a 2 week hiatus. The Senate is in session something like 130 days a year, depending on the schedule. Normal full time employment averages around 240 days a year. Give or take.

I wonder if he’ll use his family’s photo albums as the basis for these “Dystopian Visions”.

I was thinking much the same thing. When exactly will he teach this course? During his recess from the Senate or while its in session, and be forced to leave sometimes to cast votes? Is that even allowed? Why not teach something he pretends to know something about…ophthalmology perhaps?

Here’s an thought…he could just quit being a Senator and go full time as a professor…

He thinks dystopian novels are mostly about apocalypses that come from government over-reach? I wonder which novels he’s reading. Obviously not The Handmaid’s Tale. But then, rightwing libertarians never seem to consider their government interfering with women’s reproductive choices as over-reach.

You forget group readings of Ayn Rand books. Naked, probably.
