Discussion: Rand Paul Shares Articles Suggesting Dispute Over Lawn Didn't Spark Assault

In a week or two Boucher will (according to Breitbart) have converted to Islam and trained as a secret ISIS ninja, bravely tackled by Rand, who saved Western Civilization…

I still suspect that the dispute stemmed from Rand finding the grass greener on the other side of his Wall, violating the neighbor’s happy Homeland Security, nudge nudge, wink wink, say no more.

In response to the attack, the US Senate is considering a bill to create a federal crime of attacking a US Senator who is not called Ted Cruz.

It will also be discovered that Boucher has a tunnel under his home extending all the way to a pizza shop in Brooklyn, paid for by George Soros and plastered with antifa posters.

Whatever it was is going to leave Rand in considerable pain for a long time. Or in the grasp of opioids. A lesson that transcends the privileges of the Senate is a thing of beauty.

Then the Chinese will invite him to the Forbidden City.

I gotta agree with you on that. There’s something strange about the fact that he’s downplaying a pretty brutal assault on his person. Normally, I’d expect “aqua Buddha” of playing his victim creds constantly. Something about this whole episode rings hollow.

Who could of foreseen a Libertarian resident of a gated community having problems with the HOA rules? Anyone? Strict property rights are not found behind the gates.

This is the proof that Rand Paul is not a libertarian, but a petulant little child who doesn’t want to be told what to do.

Jim Skaggs, the developer of the gated community where the two live, told USA Today that Boucher and Paul had disputes over landscaping and that Paul “was probably the hardest person to encourage to follow the (homeowner’s association regulations) of anyone out here because he has a strong belief in property rights.”

Libertarians (small l) believe the government should stay out of most everything, but should enforce private contracts. Paul entered into a contract with the developer and the gated community when he bought the house. In that private contract, he agreed to abide by the association’s rules regarding how the property was kept up.

This is not the government telling Paul he has to have his lawn at a certain height or his leaves raked by a certain time, but a private contract between private entities freely entered into. That he is unwilling to follow the agreement is the proof that he’s a petulant little child and not a libertarian.

Even more, it’s the reason libertarianism is a fantasy – there are lots of people like Paul who engage in bad faith, and it would be impossible for a weakened and hampered government to enforce them.

Well you know, it only hurts when he laughs. :grimacing:

"Paul ‘was probably the hardest person to encourage to follow the (homeowner’s association regulations) of anyone out here because he has a strong belief in property rights.’”

Thing is, when you buy in a “gated community” you give up your rights by contract to the homeowners’ association or whatever they call it. Even a libertarian knows that.

(One reason I’ll never, ever, live in one a “gated community.”)

Hmmmmmm…who are you gonna believe…Jim Skaggs who goes on record with information that Rand Paul believes in absolute property rights or the Washington Examiner and Breitbart, who quote anonymous sources…?

I think Rand Paul is very concerned about the truth getting out.

I wonder if this libertarian understands the laws of contract…and the Washington Examiner and Breitbart are hardly reputable news organizations. There is more to this story than meets the eye.

I find it hard to believe these two wealthy guys in their gated community go out and do their own lawn maintenance. Pretty sure they farm that out to some low paid help.

You don’t have to have a gate to have HOA covenants. Those covenants end up being a tool for PITA neighbors who will do just about anything except move. As a rule of thumb, the bitchy neighbor factor increases by the square of the cost of the development.

I hate to write anything that’s even mildly defensive of Rand Paul, but . . . .

I live in BG, and I know RP, and our kids went to high school together [ah, the stories that haven’t been told!]. Our social circles vaguely overlap, we see each other occasionally at social things, and I last saw him at a party about two weeks ago, where I made fun of his Halloween costume and reminded him that I still despise his politics. But we’re on speaking terms.

Whatever I think about RP and his politics, Rene Boucher is well-known as a wacko here in Bowling Green, with a few well-known public incidents to his credit. I wouldn’t doubt that RP was skirting his HOA. But I also won’t be surprised if it turns out the Boucher simply woke up that day and decided to beat the crap out of the first person he saw.

Anyone who goes onto a neighbor’s property and physically attacks the neighbor has anger issues and a credibility problem. Two assholes, sure, but only one of them engaged in criminal conduct.

Sounds like another MS-13 turf battle.
