And how will Senator Mop Top be brought back into the fold? This disparagement of Trumpyā€™s toadies will not be tolerated.

These transient moments of rationality from the Republican side will soon dissolve into falling in lock-step behind Trump. Because, party power before country. And more unfortunately, the media looks at each thing Trump does - each tweet, each appointment, each dissing of the intelligence services, each lie - as one isolated item, rather than part of the formation of the big picture of the brewing, looming shitstorm about to hit the fan.

Always suspected amid all all of this Romney-or-Giuliani disinformation crapola that there was really the most sinister Bolton subterfuge really at work.

I never thought I would feel proud of Rand Paul of all people but he is making a whole whole lot of sense today. By the way even Trump himself would never support this weapons-of-mass-destruction-utter-lunatic for a job which means that Trump didnā€™t even read or understand the memorandum thatā€™ some crazed Bush leftover stuck on his desk before approving it

One probably has to give some credit to Rand Paul for his stand on Bolton, but is he really willing to accept the other Trump appointments that are ā€œway out there?ā€

Looking at the politics of the Orcs (the GOP), it will be interesting to see how far establishment GOPers can step out of line w/DT and not get a backlash. When Bush II was in power, it was pretty clear that he ran the show and talk radio was often used to whip wayward GOPers into line. That worked until about 2006. They kept their people in line, but they lost everyone else. In DTā€™s case, his positions are so inscrutable and so at odds with various constituencies within the GOP that the answer is not that clear. Also, if his #'s donā€™t really improve leading up to the midterms, does that put more pressure on GOPers like we saw during the Access Hollywood thing? I also wonder, with DT talking to Obama so often, whether he realizes that heā€™s getting played by Ryan and Pence. If DT passes this draconian Ryan agenda, heā€™ll be permanently unpopular and will lose the WWC. Thereā€™s little chance he could win a national re-election, but Ryan may still be able to hang around.

It would make sense for DT to fund a tax cut through deficit spending, reject any major changes to Obamacare and entitlements, deregulate and focus on restricting immigration into the country w/out any of the draconian deportation ideas. If he did all of that, he could be quite popularā€¦ until his recession hits.

Who?

Rand Paul? Never heard of him. Wasnā€™t he a candidate at one time for the Presidency?

Isnā€™t his dad an itinerant grifter? He should love DT.

You may be right. Certainly thereā€™s no small amount of evidence to support your judgement. Butā€¦ still I wonder. Thereā€™s no reason for Paul to fall in line; he recently won re-election and doesnā€™t need Trumpā€™s blessing. And there are a few others who would also have reasons to buck Trump on Bolton and other nominees/issues. Jeff Flake, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham and John McCain come to mind. They could form an iron wall to Trump, and would have domestic political reasons to do so.

And hereā€™s a totally out-of -the - box notion that would also allow them to punish Mitch McConnell (and his Republican tent followers) who apparently deep sixed making the Russian Manchurian Candidate information public. They could withhold their vote for McConnell as Majority Leader. They could even negotiate with the Democrats on a consensus Majority Leader, perhaps Dick Durbin, if they didnā€™t want to vote for Schumer. As outlandish as this may seem, we are living in outlandish times, and it would only take three of them to make the switch.

He deserves credit. You oughtnā€™t be curmudgeonly in granting it.

Bolton is the worst possible choice for any position in the Trump administration.

Put up or shut up, Rand. And that goes for you, especially, Lindsey. The door is open for you to throw a D in front of your name, Senator Graham. You can stop all this by doing that. One simple letter change. But you wonā€™t. So youā€™re just as full of shit as The Rapist.

Donā€™t depend on Rand Paul.

Nice Randā€¦now oppose the ā€˜one in chargeā€™ since he has already said it would be Bolton running the ā€˜day to dayā€™ā€¦

Rand is (unfortunately) my Senator. I will tell you this: Heā€™s actually ok on some issues such as Hemp in KY and would certainly fall in line for legalization of Marijuanna as that rolls along across the states.

He is learning. Iā€™ll give him that. Heā€™s not going to ever be someone I completely respect or agree with, his Libertarian views are whack central. But, the little he is learning and the tiny bits of morphing from extreme whack to occasionally sensible is something Iā€™ll take.

Late edit: Oh, and he hates McConnell.

I hate it when I agree with Rand Paul. Because heā€™s dead right on this. Bolton should get no where near state or any other federal agency.

Heā€™s a nutter and a loose cannon. Everyone hates him.

Wasnā€™t Bolton one of the hacks who disrupted the 2000 recount in Florida? I seem to recall him banging on the door of the room they were doing the recount in, disrupting the process. Having said that, the false flag accusation holds as much weight with me as the Russians flipping the election to Trump. We are being playedā€¦but by who?

Whatā€™s really pretty bizarre here, is that the Trump transition team is naming major players at State, with zero input from the SoS. Trump named his ambassador to China before he even floated Tillerā€™s name. He apparently has committed to Bolton without any, or much, input from Tiller.

All of that points to a dysfunctional State department and a President that has no regard for State and therefore diplomacy. Which we have already seen as he has taken phone calls from around the world with no briefings on those countriesā€™ current status and events.
