Discussion for article #222613
As wacky as he is on some issues,he’s totally right on others. Excluding/suppressing voters is not conservative/libertarian either. GOPs are so arrogant that they can’t conceive losing absent voter fraud.
You’ve got that one right, Randykins. An obvious attempt to suppress the vote when you don’t think a particular group will vote for your party is kind of offensive to people who like to think they still live in a democracy. Republicans deserve to be seriously shoved to the sidelines of history for this alone.
Rand Paul defends Voter ID laws at Howard University
Willard 2.0!
Yes, the perception is the problem, not that you want to disenfranchise folks who aren’t like you. Now if you find a palpable way to accomplish this, you’ll get onboard?
Okay, now PaulBot 2.0 is trying to be the “reasonable” Republican? If you buy that, I’ve got this tremendous bridge to sell you. Very nice view of Brooklyn.
Sorry Squirrely. We know this is just a political stunt of yours to appeal to moderates. Get lost.
He doesn’t care about the policy (probably is OK with it) he just doesn’t want to alienate more voters. Don’t act like he is a good guy here, just trying to win elections.
“According to the Times, despite Paul’s comments Friday, he did not "denounce voter ID laws as bad policy or take back previous statements in which he had said it was not unreasonable for voters to be required to show identification at the polls. He says these laws should be left to the states.” Emphasis mine.
Basically he wants to have it both ways. He’s saying it looks bad, but its not a bad thing. It just may make the party less popular with some voters. So, not only does it make the Republicans look less attractive to minority voters who he’s trying to snooker into voting for him, it conveniently also hinders a minority voter from being able to cast a vote in the first place against Republicans for many of their policies. So for him…Bad optics, Good policy. The guy is still a weasel with a poodle still firmly implanted on his head. A weasel-doodle!!
Now…time to go garden…Fuck these fuckwads for today.
Rand is almost the personification of libertarianism - the nice things he may say serves to fool some disillusioned kids, but it hides the fact that his policies would lead to a economic and financial disaster.
Edit: and of course, there’s the name…
Kinda like how he speaks out against drones yet is fine if it’s used on someone holding up a liquor store for $50.
This guy is trying to have it both ways. Paul sees why people are up at arms about it, and says it’s offensive to get folks thinking he understands and is on their side. But the fact is he doesn’t find showing id’s at the polls to be unreasonable and then uses the same chickenshit talking point of the issue being “left to the states”.
Coward.
BINGO. You conveyed what I was trying to say way better. Well said; I agree.
No doubt. The only reason the younger voters went for his dad was because he was for legalizing marijuana; they weren’t looking at his whole rancid policy portfolio. Rand’s betting he can do the same thing.
No where will you hear “Vote for us because we need your vote. Not because we care about you” .
The Randroid…now in blackface.
No one rides a fence like RANDY. He takes both sides of every issue.
Aw, isn’t Senator Ayn Cornpone cute? Trying to sound all presidential, and stuff.
Harness him up with Flippin’ Mitt. What with the two of them changing direction at gigahertz speed, you’d have a push-pull oscillator.
I was going to comment that it was a sad indication of the state of the former GOP when Rand Paul is the voice of reason.
But you are very right, he actually supports voter suppression. He just thinks the marketing is bad.
That’s it, just keep separating yourself from the crazy. No nomination for you. Ash heap of history coming soon.
