Discussion: R.I. Lawmaker Mistakenly Hands Out Document With Porn References

So that’s why my weather map shows an Arctic chill over a breakfast table in Rhode Island!

Of course. “A Friend” looked it up and printed it out. I believe it. I’m also looking to buy a bridge, maybe even in Rhode Island.

In all fairness to Rep. Perez, he only browses those sites for the articles.

Uh, what exactly was he researching and did he have any pants on while “researching” it?

Why is Mr. Perez’s party affiliation not stated?

The article doesn’t mention the rep’s party affiliation?

He says the handout was provided to him by a friend whom he’d asked to research the information.

Didn’t he have an aide he could blame?

He’s a Democrat. Rhode Island, District 13 (Providence and Johnston).

The porn part is funny, and the “friend” helping with “research” is a classic, but my favorite part is that he hands out photocopies of screenshots of Wikipedia pages to his colleagues! Dude should write a book – “Legislating For Dummies.”

Yeah my first thought was – what happened to the old tried-and-true “blame the intern” approach?

Problem is, at that level he probably has just one intern, so he can’t say “a junior staff member” or “an intern” without basically accusing that one intern, who may not be inclined to become a laughingstock while taking the fall, all to try to spare the Rep some embarrassment. So the (imaginary) anonymous “friend” was his better option, given that he apparently wasn’t willing to just bite the bullet and take responsibility.

I’m going to get one of these for each of my adult children. Just in case there’s something I don’t want to know.

I’m giving you the prize for comment of the day. And I don’t often hand those out.

I understand those are the bestselling item at political fundraisers this year.

It is RI, I grew up there and there is almost no chance he isn’t a Dem.

Amateur! You forgot to claim your account had been hacked!

Pants or no pants, how much hands-on research was involved?

Ahh … so what …

I’m sure he didn’t ’ inhale ’ —

Stop laughing. I’m in Providence, RI and my ward just lost our City Council member because he mis-used funds for a charity. Also, he endorsed the campaign of corrupt Vincent Cianci. Also, he initiated the Providence Community Safety Act which may become a model for anti-profiling and community rights. Politics will be cleaner when more of us get involved.

As a book editor, I once worked on computer books (at, coincidentally, the publisher of the “For Dummies” books, though thankfully I didn’t work on those). A new editor came over to tell me that whenever she tried to view the images for one of her books, she received an error message. I went over to check. The images she was “trying” to open were screenshots of error messages.
