He had been flying to Malaysia to meet up with family members on vacation, according to USA Today.
I know you never know what will happen when you board a plane but just the thought that it being shot down by a missile…???

I’m staying away of most coverage of this tragedy, because I hate seeing the faces of the people killed, hating that their lives were cut short by extremists who were given free rein and absolutely no regard for the lives of people with whom they disagree (although this was a “mistake” - they thought they were targeting the “enemy,” their countrymen).
Hating it all because we have that mentality here, people whipped into a frenzy by right wing radio/websites and Faux News and abetted by congressional republicans who stonewall any legislation that could help and champion any that’s regressive and hurtful.
It’s sickening and frustrating. Have we had enough yet?

I know it’s commonplace after a tragedy like this to mention the nationalities of this killed, but does it really matter? Does someone from say, Ivory Coast, not have the same dreams and desires and loves as an American or a Chinese?
It’s irrelevant if it was no Americans at all or 298 Americans shot down on that plane. What matters is that everyone on board was innocent and simply going about their daily lives until, once again, a group of - I just don’t even know what to call these people anymore. I’m honestly about at the end of my rope with it all. Between the brutality in Iraq and the insanity of Israel and Palestine, not to mention the countless other horror stories we hear of everyday…it’s all almost too much to bear.

Nah, sounds like he came from a wealthy family so the GOP can rally round him to start WW III. He did, however, play the wrong kind of football which might make it problematic for McCain.
Another young face dying unnecessarily as collateral damage in the worldwide fight for power, greed and control over others. I wish the family peace and consolation as well as to all the other families who have lost loved ones.

How do we or anybody penalize the perpetrators of this manslaughter? Does Putin get a pass, he shouldn’t.
Sanctions won’t bring anyone back but this makes it clear that it’s time to play hardball. He can be restricted much more than he is now.
Obviously Putin isn’t feeling the pain and isn’t worrying about his actions and what becomes of them. This is the result of foolishness, of toying with human life just to see what happens by a major leader in the world and many more lives will be lost the longer it goes on. It is basically a rogue action and has to be put down.

Africa has be raped and ruined so many times since the colonial period by foreigners bringing in gun power. But some still find a way to persevere. Take heart that even as we seem to fall back two steps for every one we move forward, Mankind does have the will to do good as well as bad.
And take heart that we were not the force behind this tragedy and are not acting rash in response. Something was learned from the Bush Great Blunder…by enough people in the US.
Let the Republicans rant and rave. We are not going to start WW III over something Russia should have anticipated and will now pay dearly for in the court of public opinion. The Bush Doctrine just doesn’t work no matter who tries it.

GWB has always searched for a father figure to dispel his own inner emptiness. Cheney fit for a while. Putin was exotic enough to fill the bill. For a while.
