That’s not Putin’s daughter, that’s Ivanka !

Right-wing French lawmaker Aymeric Chauprade on Tuesday defended his decision to hire Elizaveta Peskova

I know France has a far deeper historic connection with Russia than many European countries, but what is fucking up with modern arch-conservatives and Russia?! In the Reagan years, they were wearing ‘Kill a Commie for Mommy’ t-shirts or ‘The Only Good Russian is a Dead Russian’. Now? BFFs.

“this is about an ordinary student and an ordinary internship”

Yes, and Maria Butina was also just an ordinary student.

Nothing to see here.

Yup. We’ve been in WWIII since Putin went into Crimea, only it’s a Cold WWIII, so everyone else has been ignoring its existence, despite 2016, Brexit, etc.

Do have to say they pick their honeypots well, though.

Come on, Russia has plenty of spies, sometimes nepotism is just nepotism…

Peskov told reporters on Tuesday that “this is about an ordinary student and an ordinary internship”

Yes, ordinary. She's certainly no Sarah Sanders.

When the EU does this level of brain dead you gotta wonder if Brexit May have been the right move.

I believe the MEPs can chose their own interns…

Did anyone else click on this expecting it to be another Ivanka Trump story?

My daughter got a similar internship at the EU Parliament, though she got it through a competitive application process, rather than because the legislator she worked for was sucking up to a despot.

She had a wonderful summer in Brussels, living with a Belgian host family and getting a deep education in European Parliamentary “procedure” and Belgian beer. Oh, yes, her primary jobs were to have coffee ready when the rest of the office stumbled in around 10:00am hungover from the night before and to make certain everything was put away after they left around 2:00pm. The office staff liked the fact that she was American. They said, “You Americans work so hard.”

I thought it was Ivanka Trump and that someone was being snarky. Daddy Trump must be spending his executive time turning his mushroom into pate.

She’s the under aged girl from the Trump Moscow pee pee tape…Putin rewards those who deliver leverage over his targets. She delivered on Trump…and Manafort!

We have in jail another Russian “student” who befriended, oh, many people, the NRA, GOPers, etc. Just sayin’…

France’s connection to Russia dates back to Charles DeGaulle, and was mostly about finding markets for France’s up and coming arms industry (the Russians are very discerning buyers of military hardware, and France produces a high quality product and then sells it to anyone for cash over the barrelhead. Although it also scared the Germans, and the English, and the US shitless, giving DeGaulle more influence on the world stage.

Since Russia is perceived more like Nazi Germany this time around, complete with Jean-Marie Le Pen and her band of merry Nazis, the French treat them as a threat.

She really was a student. The GRU still has high personnel standards; Butina would have been up shit creek with her handlers if she hadn’t got straight "A"s.

I believe Napoleon had some dealings with Mother Russia.

I’m intrigued about the purported weapons sale, what did France sell to the Russians ? (I was an arms nerd many years ago and have never heard about this before and don’t believe it) Do you have a link to a source ?

The hypocrisy in Soviet and post-Soviet Russia re the “evil west” is STRONG. In both cases, the leadership hates western Europe, hates the west generally and, in the Putin era, hates the European Parliament and works assiduously to break up the European Union. And yet the children of the elite somehow always somehow manage to harvest the fruits of capitalism and/or end up in cushy gigs in Brussels, Paris, London and other Euro capitals. I’m reminded of the granddaughter of Yuri Dobrynin, ambassador to the US in the 80s, who visited our USIA exhibit. Her granddad and the rest of the Sov leadership made a huge deal of the alleged evils of capitalism, the moral bankruptcy of the rich, etc., etc., and yet here she came in a New York designer outfit, Gucci purse, alligator shoes and a first-generation Mac laptop, which at the time was export-restricted. Some model working class girl she was(!)…
