Discussion: Putin Calls For Talks On Solution To Ukraine Crisis

Discussion for article #227072

Putin’s pattern in the Ukraine crisis is to do the opposite of what he says. If he’s calling for talks, get ready for another Russian offensive.

How quaint. Putin wants to talk about peace in Ukraine after he’s built a strategic stronghold within that country, with the ability to launch a significantly stronger offensive if the rest of the world does not do exactly what he says. Peace, on his terms. Expect him to lay out the terms for not starting a larger war. The solution is to get out of his way, and to let him do whatever he wants without any consequences.

Putin cries, “Uncle”?

I doubt it.

Putin has implied in the recent past that the West should not mess with Russia because Russia is a nuclear power. That implies the use of nuclear weapons. I am not a hawk. I believe in strong economic sanctions. However, I also believe that those sanctions are in themselves an inadequate message, given the current result. I would suggest to the President that given Putin’s implication of nuclear weapons use, that the USA should raise its DEFCON level. That message will be seen by Mr. Putin, the Russian military and the world for what it is – the appropriate reaction to a bully who is implying the use of a nuclear threat.

As a nuclear super power, Comrade Putin will do as he wishes. And there’s nothing that silly Moose and Squirrel can do about it!

 Rocky and Bullwinkle was a staple of my earlier years. However, as nasty as Natasha is, she would not be pleased if she and all her relatives were to be potentially facing an increased likelihood of nuclear annihilation for the naked aggression of her Fearless Leader…

Bumping DEFCON upwards would get their attention. Putin is going after land that was once long ago conquered by Mother Russia. He has taken the Crimea, which is only majority ethnic Russian because Stalin displaced many of the previous occupants, the Crimean Tatars. Let’s say that the rest of the world deem’s it acceptable if Russia keeps Crimea, just so Russia has a warm water port. Putin does not need a land bridge to Crimea any more than he needs all the shores and harbors surrounding the Sea of Azov. Building a bridge from port Kavkaz to port Krym is not a difficult engineering feat.

Now, if Putin had been really smart, he would have simply leased the ports in Crimea – or all of Crimea – from the Ukrainians, much like Great Britain leased Hong Kong. Lease it for a ridiculously long time period. But nooooo, the guy has to go and force it his way under cover of protecting the ethnic Russians from those nasty, evil Ukrainians, who we all know held all of the Soviet Union under their thumbs for most of the 20th century. /snark

I bet the Ukrainians now wish they had never signed away their consignment of nuclear missiles back to Russia as part of the breakup of the former Soviet Union and subsequent missile treaties.

With Putin’s latest comments stating that no one should mess with Russia because they have nuclear weapons tells a very different tale. He has nothing between his words and the use of WMD’s. The Russian military is dilapidated. NATO or the US alone can roll the Russian conventional military. The only issue is how to provide Putin a way to back down without being backed into a corner which would cause him to literally go nuclear.

Solution: Get the fuck out of Ukraine and take what few “ethnic Russians” that want to live in your fascist state with you, Pooty.

The Allied Command at the end of WWII should have listened to Gen George Patton. Patton wanted to fight the Russians into oblivion, the powers that were should have listened.

Little wonder people are becoming increasingly suspect of government around the world…the unbridled hypocrisy has progressed to a level that even the densest nit wit will find disturbing…Kissinger’s “crumbling world order” comment is a testimony to the dearth of leadership that becomes increasingly difficult to ignore by citizens suffering the consequences of disasterous policy decisions.

You seriously believe that the Russian military is dilapidated? You believe that NATO alone could just “roll over” the Russian conventional military? Is this your honest opinion, or are you prone to hyperbole, or are you paid in rubles to write this?

Putin has built a cult of personality that he is a tough, bare-chested, horse-riding he-man cowboy. Yeeehaw! He is also a former KGB operative who has fairly recently used his security and intelligence operatives to poison opponents with Polonium. You know the character of the actors on the world stage by their actions.

There are three basic pathways to resolution: Putin can declare victory with Crimea and turn around while abandoning the remaining ethnic Russians in Ukraine, or Putin can try to take all of the so-called Novorossiya which contains all those ethnic Russians, or Putin can pay Ukraine for the use of their soil – the Hong Kong lease method.

At this time it appears that Putin is going the Novorossiya route, and hoping that the USA and EU are too distracted by ISIS.
