Discussion: Push To Revive'Religious Freedom' Bills Post-Hobby Lobby Is Underway

Discussion for article #224774

Yep. Pretty obvious that LGBT rights were in the crosshairs when Supreme’s started destroying women’s rights.

Yup. They will never quit. There are still scattered “Take Back Vermont” slogans here and there, remnants of a time long past.

Generally adorning a large satellite dish or cardboard sign on a double-wide.

Good Luck with that!

I have been making the same simple request for over a week. Show me the long form birth certificate of this Hobby Lobby person if you want me to believe that he / she is a person with individual rights.

A Pew Forum study in 2009 revealed that “White evangelical Protestants were the religious group most likely to say torture is often or sometimes justified – more than six in 10 supported it.”

So in other words, more than sixty percent of white Evangelical Christianists endorse the purposeful infliction of pain and agony on other human beings. I have no doubt that many Christianists would be only too happy to subject gays and lesbians to such treatment simply for being who they are.

Who would Jesus torture?

Mark my words, the Hobby Lobby decision and the religious right are the best thing to happen to Democrats in 2014. With this decision and this push to further discriminate against women, gays and whoever else the religious right hates is going to mobilize women, gays, and young voters in November.

I know this goes against the common wisdom of the Very Serious People, but the Dems could take back the House and widen their majority in the Senate. The polls will miss this populace movement by women, minorities, gays, the young and liberals.

The Dems just need to pound away at these issues with ads and stump speeches and whatever else is at their disposal. The majority is on their side, they just need to not screw this up.

So, how long before businesses start discriminating against people of color? Not long, I predict…

Thanks for nothing, Five Old White Male Papists…

One more example of showing that once again what is wholly unwarranted is holy warranted. There’s still plenty who hate their neighbors but won’t forget to say grace.

I hope these religious cult members know that there will be a blowback. I don’t know what form it will take but there will be one that will push them further into the margins of society.

That’s the big question, isn’t it? Being a cynic, I have virtually unbounded faith in the ability of the alleged geniuses in the Democratic Party establishment to completely step on their dicks when it comes to the rough-and-tumble of retail electoral politics. Thank God the Republicans tend to be such morons themselves.

My God says that I don’t have to serve a nI(clang) because White men have dominion over them. Can cite you chapter and verse if wants. Also.

'Nuff said.

The trouble is: Take a look at America these days. Just go to some festival or event where a large amount of people gather. Take a good look, a good long look. Then tell me if you think most of them are even paying attention much less care. Hate to say that, but I always do that when I find myself in a big crowd. Sure, I’m judging….and that’s a no, no but it’s not hard to see at all. But….I hope you are right, I really, really, hope you are right.

I think the HL decision will have a large backlash. Maybe not in public policy but certainly in legislators bedrooms. There will be quite a few sleeping on the couch.

We need evil. We should thank God for the false Christians.

My fave was the rural Vermont home with the “Support Our President and Our Troops!” sign out front. Came down the day Obama took office.

These are traitors. We’ve got to start calling them out on this. They betray both Jesus and America. It has to stop being respectable to be of their ilk.

Also, Jesus was gay.

Hate comes in many forms. Here, hatred wears the guise of religious freedom. These phony Christians love to hate

Not just LGBT community need to be worried about this insane SCOTUS decision.
There are lots of historical precedents for “religious-based” discrimination against blacks, jews, women, young people, long hair, tatoos, bare heads, no beards (or not long enough), etc.
We are teetering on the precipice of a fall into the abyss of an “American Taliban” who can pick and choose what laws they want to follow and what laws they ignore because of their “religion” (#1 will be them not paying ANY taxes because of their “religion”) and enforce it all at the point of a “constitutionally protected” assault weapon.
Weep for the lost American ideal of pluralism and community.
The future is gated city-states with their own private armies and laws, all based upon their “religion”.

My whole life I viewed the protections of the First Amendment as a shield against government involvement in religious matters. It was created in response to the wars of the reformation that killed millions of Europeans and lead to discrimination against hundreds of millions more.

Now Xtians are using the First Amendment as a sword to advance their religious views. Soon it won’t be just the gays or uppity women feeling their evil wrath. Pretty soon we will have pitched battles between Baptists and Catholics. The Mormons are going to be a real fix. Not enough of them to survive the attacks of the Evangelicals. Hopefully I won’t live that long, but my children might. The enlightenment will have been in vain.

I wonder if this is what happens when people home school?

Aint that the truth. The Democrats biggest mistake was not seeing that the GOP was about steal the House when they dumped a ton of money in state legislative races so that they could gerrymander districts in 2010. It is the biggest coup in politics in a long time and it will serve the GOP until at least 2020 when the next census is done.

This attack on human rights could be problematic considering the “equal protection” rights enshrined in the 14th Amendment to the Constitution…
