Discussion: Public Skepticism Of OK Teachers Grows As Strike Stretches Into Fourth Day

Really?

Because I read this morning that people were sending pizzas to the striking teachers.

The teachers want to raise taxes to pay for schools in a red state. I can see why that would be unpopular. But it’s still the right thing to do. Recall that ~20% (IIRC) of schools in OK are only able to be open 4 days a week instead of 5. Would you want your kids getting 20% less education than everyone else in the nation?

This poll released yesterday suggests otherwise: http://www.tulsaworld.com/news/teacherwalkout/oea-funded-poll-percent-of-oklahomans-support-teacher-walkout-for/article_9ccc1d60-1171-5b4d-8853-3e9072b6e477.html . Is it a bad poll?

Those who think that $6000.00 a year raise should make teachers happy fail to grasp that Republicans are doing what they accuse Democrats of doing, throwing money at a problem instead of understanding how teachers in OK became the lowest paid teachers in the country.
When next year(s) rolls around and individuals figure out that their Trump tax cut isn’t enough to cover the rising cost of new taxes and user fees; all the while the state legislature is cutting more taxes for businesses, and offering outrageous tax relief incentives to businesses, and their quality of life is not improving.

“Public Skepticism Of OK Teachers Grows As Strike Stretches Into Fourth Day.”

(Eyeroll)

And this claim is based on a critical comment by one guy in the oil industry?

Who’s completely overshadowed by others who support the teachers strike?

And actual…you know…“polling” that contradicts the entire narrative?

AP really needs to credit writer Sean Murphy with a “Special Trolling Correspondent” byline.

It’s AP. After their bullshit on the Clinton Foundation, I treat each of their articles with skepticism and judge on a case by case basis.

Also, Bob Mercer, Islamophobe with deep pockets.

This is what you get after years of voting for politicians who run on busting unions and lowering taxes in order to cut domestic spending - ie funds for public education. I hate to say it but you get what you pay for.

It’s what makes Oklahoma Oklahoma…

Yeah I saw that some OK GOP this morning claimed the striking teachers were actors from Chicago bused in.

Which I took as something that is bound to piss off the teachers of Ok and the Oklahomans who support them.

Strike while the iron’s hot! Keep up the momentum because it will reveal the cracks in the facade of these fat cats who don’t care really about the children. I’ll bet a lot of these legislators send their kids to private schools. Let’s see some reporting about that!

Ideally it would hurt out of touch lawmakers and oil industry execs and others who support never ending tax cuts instead of working class and students but public schools in OKwere already on a 4 day week which was a huge red flag that something was wrong for along time.

Don’t buckle, teachers. Go after and get what you deserve.

Along with Gov. Fallin’s quote from yesterday, this is a lot like Mr. Bumble’s reaction to Oliver asking, “Please sir, can I have some more?” The teachers are supposed to appreciate the thin gruel that they’ve been dished up by the Republican-controlled legislature. Not ask for enough to actually live on.

What is it with the Republicans and the “actors being bussed in” thing? This continues to crop up, and yet is easily debunked.

OKLAHOMA!
Yeeow!

But how will the vox populi debunk it? Unless they travel to the place personally and check it out (possibly discharging their firearm accidentally in the process), they’re relying on media reports to “debunk” it for them. And they know how reliable the media are.

The Right’s purposefully engendered a culture of distrust toward the elites (of which the media are but one column) specifically so that their low-info followers will believe ridiculous lies like this.
