Same logic used for Sandy Hook.

“this is something that has only taken place because of climate change”

is the opening premise of a straw man argument. It sounded to me like a soft ball to the sycophantic Pruitt so that he could play to Trump’s base and also nuzzle closer to Trump’s taint.

Sorry this is entirely OT. Is it mentioned here yet?

Marlow pressed: “What would you say, theoretically, if they challenged you and they said that ‘this is something that has only taken place because of climate change,’ what would be your response?”

This guy needs to stay away from open flames, because all that straw will go up in a second flat…

Let me offer you a succinct scientific response that the layperson can readily understand. “Wank off, you fraud.”

When Republicans say “Don’t politicize the issue”, what they mean is “Don’t do anything about it.”

Harvey is the worst rain event in U.S. history, . . .

and according to Pruit, it has nothing to do with climate change nor global warming.

And I suppose he has scientific evidence to support that claim? . . . . .yea, I thought not.

It’s too soon to talk about gun control climate change.

Oh, and “opportunistic?” “Misplaced”? I guess since Trump projects all the time now his people do it too.

He added: “So, I think for opportunistic media to use events like this to, without basis or support, just to simply engage in a cause and effect type of discussion, and not focus upon the needs of people, I think is misplaced.”

Nope, just nope. This bullsh*t strawman, illogical fallacy should have been called on right there and then.

I guess this behaviour will be continuing as Hurricane Irma, currently at Cat. 3 status possibly barrels towards Southeast coast.

When they say they are not scientists it means they are pure republicans; determined to burn down the planet. And since they are not scientists, how can they presume to know what scientists are talking about, much less if they are right or wrong?

Prushitt is misplaced.

“The [Washington] Post noted separately that the storm had delivered the Houston area its third “500-year
flood” in three years — that is, storms so bad they have a 1 in 500 chance of happening in a given year and local area.”

Just to clarify, the Post is conflating two separate issues. A “500 year flood” describes a flood of an intensity that the historical record shows occuring, on the average, about every 500 years. It is not a good basis for a statistical probability. Houston could just as easily have another 500-year event next year, particularly if climactic changes set the stage for such an event. At that point, the historical record, and averages will change.

Since the Earth’s climate has and IS changing, it would be ‘stupid’ and ‘pigheaded’ to deny that climate change affects everything, including and especially Hurricane Harvey, the worst US storm ever.
