Discussion: Prosecutors Drop All Charges Against Officer Charged In Death Of Freddie Gray

It’s about time. There was no evidence of wrong doing, and the prosecutor simply brought the charges to advance her husband’s campaign for Mayor. Sadly, without any criminal or civil trial results the City of Baltimore gave a $6+million settlement to Freddie Gray’s relatives.

Well, it’ll be interesting to see how long the prosecuting atty. will remain in office. This is a total rout for her.

Regardless of the merits, it became clear there would be no convictions. “oops, our bad.”

I think if someone has a homicide itch they just have to scratch they’d be well advised to be sure their victim is black.

At this point, I think we’re going to see more White LEO’s killed. Hard not to see that happening…

Delay in bringing a case against police is a sign of prosecutorial competence, not bad faith. If there are any other prosecutors or former prosecutors like me who read TPM and have been following this I am sure they will agree that you almost never can bring a case against police for brutality without a meticulous investigation, usually utilizing extensive grand jury proceedings, to make sure all of your bases are covered. I saw this coming— it just all happened too fast and as a reult of political pressure. Police unions hire the best lawyers and investigators, and judges and juries do not like to convict cops. Everyone involved in all movements to improve police interactions with minorities need to keep this in mind,

Yep, leaving someone loose in the back of a van and then swerving around so hard their neck gets broken involves no wrongdoing whatsoever.

I think the noose on his neck looped around one of the cargo hold hooks didn’t help matters.

and Baltimorean.

To be fair to the prosecutors, not having a fully-glazed police van was a handicap to evidence-gathering.
