well it’s about time these thugs see whats gonna happen when you willfully go out and kill someone…hope they get life in prison cause the death penalty would be too easy for them
Well sit back and watch. The kind of folks that would beat a man to death when they have a 6 to one advantage and under the cover of authority have to be cowards. Now watch what cowards do. These assholes are going to rat each other out big time because they don’t want to suffer. Too bad Mr. Gray’s suffering meant nothing to them.
I also think that this will make the streets safer for the police, as it is a first step to restoring trust. However, in addition to this action, people should take a good, hard look at the training the Baltimore police are receiving. Much police training in the US today is military training, which does not prepare them to “keep the peace” and protect citizens. Getting rid of bad apples and people who are mentally unstable is a good start, but having clear procedures for those who want to do good work is crucial.
It actually wasn’t a technical point, it was quite bizarre. The judge tossed it out because he said that the cop pointing his gun indicated it was not involuntary…that he meant to kill someone. And since the prosecutor was only charging him with involuntary manslaughter, he was going to throw it out.
The judge is arguing that the prosecution must always go for the toughest crime. That sort of “reasoning” means we have to toss out nearly every single plea bargain…ever, as they invaribaly are about reducing the level of the crime, and therefore the sentence, in return for not having to go through the expense and trouble of a trial.
Even more disturbing in that case, the judge is saying “he did it, he meant to do it, and I am letting him walk”…before a case was even presented. (The defense called for a dismissal as one of the first motions, I believe).
So, it was no technicality. It was a judge turning the entire prosecutorial process on its head, in order to see a cop walk (Interesting enough, no police officer has been convicted in Chicago in half a century).
I believe the Cop’s were white. You’re not supposed to call white folks thugs.
Well, this will remove any basis for the right wing speculation that Mr Gray fatally injured himself a week prior to his last ride in a police van. The wing nuts actually speculated (as reported on TPM yesterday) that Gray injured himself a week prior to his last arrest by running from the cops and falling over an 18" fence thereby severing his spine at the neck. The nutjobs never mention it would’ve then been impossible for Gray to walk afterward or do anything worthy of arrest a week further on.
You know, I was just thinking that at least one of them must have dropped a dime (or, maybe, many of them) and decided that they didn’t want to go to the “general population”.
The elite Countertop Inspection Commando Regiment of the 101st “Fightin’ Keyboarder” Chairborne is already on the case.
Baltimore FOP #3 calls for a Special Independent Prosecutor.
They claim “…none of the officers involved is responsible for the death of Mr. Gray …each of the officers diligently balanced their obligations to protect Mr. Gray and discharge their duties to protect the public.”
Seems to me that when the DA is clearly on the side of the cops, like McCullough, no way they’ll have a special prosecutor. But let a state’s attorney seek actual justice, and they flail about looking for some chance they’ll get away with it.
Yeah, I’m sure this will totally put an end to that nonsense. Because if there’s one thing those guys are known for, it’s admitting a theory spun out of the need for confirmation of their own biases is false.
Wow! Justice as it should be. I feel so proud of this woman. I do so dearly hope that we have finally hit the tipping point and the days of unbridled police excesses are coming to an end.
After 9/11 everyone became enamored with the idea of the blue-coated hero and it became anathema to speak ill of or question our “thin blue line” of defense from the bad guys.
As I’ve said before: Give a small-minded person a little power and they will abuse it every time.
We gave them that power and now we need to take it back. They need to be questioned. They need to be held responsible. The small-minded ones need to be rooted out.
However, we also need to change our cultural hero worship of the rogue who takes matters into his own hand and operates with the idea that the ends justify the means. For instance, one of the most popular dramas on TV now is NCIS. Everyone loves, respects, and worships Gibbs. He is above reproach, except for that cold-blooded murder thing that everyone knows about and hides and covers up. Yes, the man Gibbs stalked and executed was responsible for the death of his wife and daughter, but does that make it alright? Suppose it had only been his wife, would that be bad enough to justify it? Where do you draw the line? If it’s okay for Gibbs to commit murder, why not any cop? If it’s okay for any one man to be act as judge and executioner, why not any other man?
It’s not just NCIS. Since the launching of Eastwood’s vigilante series of spaghetti westerns, America has had a love affair with the avenger types.
If we are what we glorify, then maybe we need to find some new heroes to glorify.
punrestrained
So, Grey was killed because he made puns? Proofreading, you might want to try it TPM. Otherwise, great news.
Why would you indict a person who was clearly acting in self defense? McCulloch is an a-hole, but he was right. The media was wrong.
In this case, all indications are that the police caused this guys death. And that has nothing to do with the media either. It has to do with facts.
Totally different situations, night and day.
Wow, I didn’t see that coming.
Take that Bob McCullough. That is how a Prosecutor does her job.
Yes, that was an amusing typo. That’s not even a grammar thing, spell check would get that.
I see faux news ?,is starting its “SPIN” on this story early this morning,So I guess by tonight it will be in full centrifugal force by the time the TWO MUSKETEERS AND ONE MUSKETEERETTE get on tv tonight.
?? Eric Holder also chose not to indict. A good prosecutor does not indict when they should not.
This is a completely different scenario. All evidence at this time lends itself to indicting.
Wouldn’t “punrestrained” mean restrained from punning? If punrestraints existed, they’d be more common than jumper cables. Most would want a set.
Indictments/trials needed , tho.
Lt John Burge was convicted of lying to investigators, not for torturing people until they confessed to crimes.
