Discussion for article #231880
Copland lives. Without the police union, he would never have had a career beyond the borough. Pathetic.
Does Donovan think that black folks’ right to vote has been repealed???
He’s running to replace the convicted criminal Michael Grimm—who won re-election despite being a crook.
So it won’t be surprising if this jackass wins.
40-ish. White. Balding. Was he in Colorado Springs last week?
Staten Island,he will win in a landslide,if a convicted felon (Michael Grimm) won in a landslide why not a prosecutor.Talk about sending signals.
This is indecent.
Imagine this sequence of events: Donovan presents the Garner grand jury with additional charging options. The grand jury returns an indictment on one of the lesser charges that they are now able to consider. The police unions flip out.
Without the support of the police unions–and perhaps with their active opposition–would Donovan still be running for Congress?
This is another reason why police violence needs to be investigated by independent offices.
That headline should read “Non-prosecutor…”
Dan Donovan never should have been allowed to “prosecute” the officer in the Eric Garner case due to a blatant conflict of interest. Donovan relied on endorsements from police unions in his campaign, and they provided a get-out-the-vote effort on his behalf. http://www.silive.com/news/index.ssf/2011/09/law_enforcement_unions_donovan.html
The Department of Justice’s investigation into the Eric Garner case should not only involve whether the officer violated Eric Garner’s rights, but also Donovan’s role in the obstruction of justice that took place afterward.
Doesn’t matter. You could have video of the cop laughing with his partner and planning to shoot the next dark-skinned jaywalker he sees, and it wouldn’t matter on Staten Island. They will never convict a cop. Especially not for crimes committed against someone of color.
In the week since my last announcement the enthusiasm for my candidacy has only broadened.
And your opposition? That would be the 10s of thousands marching in the streets of New York City.
