Discussion: Prosecutor Drops Eric Greitens' Felony Computer Tampering Charge

Making her statement the day after Greitens announced his resignation, Gardner said the most “fair and just way to resolve the situation” is to dismiss the case, since Greitens would likely not face any jail time due to his status as first-time offender and the level of the crime.

Who gives a shit if he gets jail time? By dismissing the case he gets a free pass and no chance of him becoming a convicted felon.

How is that considered justice?

Does this mean that all the information about Greitens’ “dark money” sources and connections are going down the rabbit hole, never to be seen again? Josh sees the threat of revelations about this money trail as the main reason Greitens resigned. Is the fix in, and, if so, how big is the fix?

The temptation on the right, and perhaps far more of the regional and national establishment, is going to be to get this guy off the stage asap, but somebody, some intrepid journalist or other, needs to get the papers on this guy public. Bring the dark money into the light.

Certainly seems like there was a back room deal. Resignation for dropped charges. This seems very fishy unless I’ve missed something.

Great, so now we don’t get to follow the money, just as Josh predicted. That’s a damn shame. I’d really like to know what dark money is doing in state government. But I guess Gardener can rest easy in the belief that she did this for the people of Missouri (as opposed to trying to save her own reputation, such as it is).

Harrumph.
I’d be agreeable to a similar deal for Trump.

And how come they never drop charges when it’s a first time drug offender who wouldn’t face jail time?

Hear, hear!

Moreover, by dismissing this case, won’t they consider him a “first-time offender” the next time he pulls this shit?

all the information about Greitens’ “dark money” sources and connections
This is what I want to see. The names on that list must be pretty powerful. Powerful enough for him to resign. Powerful enough for the prosecutor and legislature to let it go.

Now you see, this is exactly what makes people think these prosecutions are political. As soon as the guy resigns, charges are dropped.

His prosecution should continue. He isn’t above the law.

It’s like the Shakespearean trope of a play within a play. On the macro level, we have the GOP congress desperately abusing power to thwart legislative oversight, law enforcement investigations and prosecutions into the wrongdoing of their party’s POTUS and cohorts. On the micro level, the exact same thing is playing out in MO. The Bard would be so proud.

Silly rabbit. A first-time drug offender is a “serious threat” to society and must face jail time. So of course they have to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It’s the only way to keep us safe.

Gardner ended her statement with an uplifting call for unity: “It’s time for us to come together, to heal the wounds of the city and state, to build a place where people feel they are heard…”

Mike Pence is taking notes.

Without a felony conviction he can keep his guns.

Another victory for freedom and stuff.

Is Gardner running for office or something, cuz she is not acting like a Circuit Atty. If crime is small and first offender, etc., then a plea that requires no time served but not dismissal. And the patriotic bit at the end is way out of line, and not a valid consideration by a prosecutor. Really odd news conference. Back room strong-arming going on if I had to guess, but things done in the dark like that, even if it got Greitens to resign, are dangerous.

He can loan them out for show-and-tell at school. All good fathers are doing it.

Not me. Way too much to just let slide.

“…and millions of rubles in dark-money contributions to the GOP in 2016 stay hidden and available for 2018.”

Ummm…NO, NO, NO. This is WAY too much like “My fellow Americans, our long national nightmare is over.”
