Discussion for article #234957
So why are Churches and other Non-profit religious organizations exempt? They can still be bigots?
“Proposed Fix To Indiana Law Provides Protections For LGBT Individuals”
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure it does. That’s why the Indiana law is there in the first place.
No time to make orientation a protected class during this session? Bagger, puh-leeze. The only “time” required is the time needed to type out the paragraph.
So who can businesses operating in the public market place now discriminate against?
This is known in the Hoosier State as as the “Now You Sportscasters Can Quit Bitching And Talk About the Final Four Law.”
Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.
There will always be pregnant women.
Little known fact. There is a law, actually an amendment to the US constitution that allows for such a thing. I think it was the first one.
I just read that the commissioner of the Mid-Atlantic Conference, Jon Steinbrecher, told ESPN on Tuesday that the league would not host any future events in the state because of the RFRA signed by Pence unless changes were made. I’d have been surprised if the NCAA didn’t lower the boom as well.
Obviously, it wasn’t only sports orgs that brought about the change of “heart,” but it certainly added some much-needed clout and highlighted the philosophy of diversity and acceptance.
It probably took them longer to come up with an excuse why they didn’t include protection legislation than it would have to simply include it.
This is BS. A fig leaf designed to make it appear the law merely contained a legal oversight rather than an orchestrated attempt to again ignite a cultural war for 2016 use.
Most all the Quisling TV types seem to have heavily invested in figs…What did Tweety say last night…The Indiana legislators “were drawn into the culture war”. Drawn in!!! Isn’t a plotter already “in”?
This law is not needed then, right? What is different in Indiana with it than it is without it?
“Now there’s no use in having this law.” - GOP/Pence
Unless the NCAA wants to move its headquarters out of Indianapolis, they are just going to continue being “very concerned”
Agreed, they should have just flat out repealed it. “Problem” (that they tried to bamboozle through) solved!
I guess it will depend on how palatable Indiana can make this “fix.” Guess everyone needs to keep the pressure on.
It sounds kind of like a non-repeal, repeal.
GOP cowards trying to save face. Pathetic. It should never have been passed in the first place.
A business (or anybody else) can legally discriminate against anyone as long as it’s not due to their status in a protected class, e.g. race, religion, gender, handicap, etc. It’s perfectly okay to refuse to serve someone who doesn’t have a shirt, has tattoos, is short, ugly, etc. Hence the signs most places have that say “we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone”.
I’m still confused… What, exactly, is this law intended to do if not codify religious discrimination?
