Discussion: Pro-EU Protesters March In London, Demand New Vote On Brexit

From what I recall, the Brits wanted a recount pretty much right after the initial vote. It really is not beneficial for Britain to separate from EU…and it started with push against specifically Polish immigration. (And Poland has a lot of guts going far right).

This is 100% on Cameron. It was monumentally stupid to base a decision as sweeping as BREXIT on a simple-majority vote. Russian propaganda is a small factor compared to Cameron’s idiocy.

The People’s Vote campaign, which organized the march, argues that public opinion is turning against Brexit as the economic costs become clearer.

Clearer? No, they’ve been clear all along. But a combination of Russian rat fcking and Britain’s version of a basket full of low information, militantly ignorant deplorables got Brexit passed anyway.

Even if the vote wasn’t suspect (and it is), the demographics of the vote were highly skewed. The greatest support for Brexit came from elderly voters — my 90 year old Aunt among them — who weren’t ideologically committed either way, but longed for the familiar good ol’ days. It’s never great when the population who have to live with the consequences of a decision (younger people) are the ones who voted against it. If the vote was held again today, you’d have a different outcome simply from “natural turnover” (yes that’s a bit morbid, but true in this case).

Edit: when a vote is as close as Brexit was, I suppose all sorts of factors could influence a re-vote in a different direction. But this is one of them

They really ought to hold another election on this, a clean one, not one rigged by the Russkies.

Britians leader may not be as horrible as Trump, but her policy is far more destructive. Her parties plans to leave the EU is way worse than anything Trump has proposed, especially if they leave the common market as well. While the immediate consequences may not be as dire as Chamberlain’s acquiesence to Hitler’s demands or the punitive sanctions applied to Germany after WWI,it is an unforced historical mistake on the same scale.

Yes - the Brexit was the stupidest thing I’ve seen a country do. Trump’s election was the 2d stupidest thing I’ve seen a country do.

Hey, why the hell not? There’s now no rule of law in the US, and we are giving Trump unlimited mulligans on his heinous crimes; so, hell yeah, just toss out the Brexit vote and get a do-over for all the whiners who lost. It’s the Trumpian way.

The rule of law in the US has nothing to do with Britain, the Brexit or what happened with that electrion with one exception - the Brexit was financed by Putin just like Trump was.

And as for whining losers - the big loser in the Brexit is Britain and all of her people if Britain goes ahead with the withdrawal.

So their legislature is as screwed up as ours? Now I see ‘how’ Putin played the issue so this far-ranging vote changed 70yrs of policy. But you can’t run a government that way.

YES, that was the main selling point for the Scottish vote. For instance, should the Scottish get a new vote.

Yes and so is Italy’s parliament. There are people who argue all the time from the left that we need a parliamentary government.

They are not any better at stopping this shit than ours.

I know Poles are the largest European contingent in England, but why are they such a focal point of all this?

NO, for instance Farage IMMEDIATELY after the vote said the Brits would not be getting a billion pounds a day for their Health Care, that the claim was untrue.

People believed this and even if there was a LOT of evidence the claim was untrue, the claim was pounded by the Brexit media and it was all a lie.

They claimed just vote and we’ll get ALL THESE BENEFITS and no ‘problems.’ Now they see that mostly what they are getting is ‘problems’ because it is a rats’ nest to take all these entanglements apart.

It goes on and on.

Northern Ireland depends greatly on the EU for its income. It does not want to leave the EU. So what happens - does it finally join the Republic? Could be. Scotland probably will separate from Britain if it goes through with the Brexit.

And what happens to all of the Brits working in Schengen Area countries? The EU made that movement for jobs throughout the member nations possible. What happens to the other Europeans working in Britain? I have a friend in Italy whose son works in London. Nobody knows.

It is not “guts” but rancid conservative stupidity (nativism mixed with religion) that has taken over Poland.

Just the sort of thing you’d expect from a man who stuck his member into a dead pig’s mouth.

Agreed, his crimes are much more serious, than hookers, otherwise he’d brush it off as “whorehouse behavior” and his hoard would nod in agreement. It has to be something so illegal as to risk even their steadfast dedication. Hint: begins with Russian and ends with mob. Follow the $$$$.

A well-connected former IRA man in Derry said last summer that it was no longer a question of if, but when, on unification–5-10 years. All the Unionists he knew were talking in terms of getting a seat at the negotiating table early, so as to be able to deliver the best deal for their constituents. If Brexit is somehow reversed, that might not come to pass, but either way, N.I. wants to stay in the EU. The EU has financed all kinds of community projects that have helped make and maintain peace since the Good Friday negotiations.
