Discussion for article #223004
Man, couldn’t they just throw in a Pol Pot every now and then for variety?
It may have been “impolitic” of him to have stated the truth, but he does have a degree in history…
If Obama = Hitler according to RWNJ and Putin = Hitler according to a Prince Charles, does that mean Obama = Putin?
shrug, so what?
The Prince is entitled to his opinion too…what’s Pooty going to do, invade the Line of Succession and plant his flag on it?
You may wanna look up “fallacy of authority.”
Putin may be a difficult character, but he has his own story to tell about Bush and his girlfriend Condi trying so hard to bring NATO to Ukraine, AND…
Putin’s got a pretty thin record on genocide. So I call BULLSHIT.
Why would anyone ever report this to the newspaper? He tells you something like that, you keep it to yourself. What do you gain from telling a reporter?
Republicans cheer Putin … British Royal Family say Putin is acting just like Hitler.
Oh, no he docent!
Sorry, I had to…
“You may wanna look up “fallacy of authority.””
The “fallacy of authority” refers to irrelevant authorities. His position as Prince of Wales is irrelevant authority in this case but his position as a degreed student of history is not irrelevant.
Charles may have Winny Churchill’s walking stick right up his royal “Whisky and Rum,” but he’s neither stupid nor ignorant.
And you should know, you in-bred, brother-father, totally inadequate IQ for breathing and walking at the same time, consanguineous idiot. Your great uncle was a vehement supporter of Hitler’s and was never disavowed by the monarchist Winston Churchill or his brother, the King of Great Britain and the Empire, your grandfather.
Let me see…I seem to recall another uncivilized, noted power in the world that participated in a similar scheme to that which Mr. Putin may or may not be acting. That country, in a VERY participatory and brutal manner, threw itself against another country that was clearly incapable of defending itself against the ravages of an imperialistic “coalition” intent on stealing the natural resources of the beleaguered country. Now let me see…let me think…what country was that…oh yes…that colonialist country was your country in the imperialistic oil war created by your MI6 and George Bush’s CIA against Iraq.
Be careful, my royal, thick-headed emir. People who live in glass houses ought not throw stones.
And one more thing. You are never allowed the privileges that we peons get. For instance, there is NO SUCH THING as a private conversation when you are a leech on society’s benevolence. You, my thick headed, arrogant despot are always on display and always on the record.
Hitler was a complex character…there are hundreds of ways one could be “like Hitler”. Just to point out a few, one could, for example, form a political party preying on resentment to capture political power by (almost) democratic means; foster employment by military spending; occupy neighboring countries by exploiting minority tensions and racial affinities; foster extreme nationalism; and engage in inhuman genocidal behavior against Jews and other designated groups. To say that someone is “like Hitler” for one of those reasons does not presuppose that that person is “like Hitler” for all of those reasons. It appears that because we jump to “all of the above”, especially the genocide bit, that comparisons to Hitler are, so to speak, verboten. That’s a pity, because we may be overlooking other valid comparisons. We should also beware of countries, parties, or individuals that lift other strategies out of the Nazi playbook.
He will catch flack on this but he is correct!
Indeed. My first thought, when Russia annexed Crimea, was “Anschluss.” And when Putin started talking about the poor oppressed ethnic Russians in eastern Ukraine, I thought “Sudetenland.” He really is using an 80-year-old playbook, and mostly getting away with it. But that doesn’t mean that Putin = Hitler.
Math and age don’t add up. If she is 78 now, and 13 when she fled Poland, then that was 65 years ago.
2014 minus 65 = 1949.
WWII ended in 1945.
Because the Daily Mail is a tabloid rag. Which is why Drudge loves them.
Yea, but could HRH cite one example of Hitler EVER stealing a Super Bowl ring???
Prince Charles comments must be terribly offensive to the GOPers who were falling over themselves to praise Putin and his leadership.
