The problems with the Fourth Estate are fixableā¦some at the top, middle and bottom of the structure. As always, $$$$$$ figures into most of the problems at every level. In addition, top, middle and bottom sectors of the Fourth Estate are tied into adjacent social structures.
A two-day seminar with about 15 panels would go a long way into analysis and solutions for these problemsā¦
And then run into the same bastards (private-sector, government, academic) who are responsible for the problems in the first place.
C. Wright Mills would have a field day on this.

Weāll know the audio visual media are trying to do real news instead of an entertainment show when the average āpersonalityā (not reporter) looks only average and has a less than sonorous voice. The on air personalities are not selected because of their journalism chops.

Another member of Judge Ellisā āOtherwise Blameless Lifeā seems to have lied in his congressional hearing. Kudos to @mehdirhasan for exemplifying what journalists do!
In 2011, Ellis dismissed a civil lawsuit against Prince that alleged his former security firm Blackwater cheated the government with false billing invoices including bills for prostitutes under the category of āmorale, welfare and recreation.ā
Maybe its time to revisit those allegations and another visit to the Capitol and Muellerā¦IRS, Cummings, Schiff, Nadler!

Do not underestimate ego as a primary factor. They all have this common egotistical kink. Their ego allows them to think they are smarter than their marks. And their stupidity repudiates that view point directly. If they were were less egotistical, they would set boundaries to keep things off the radar. But in trying to have it all, they are dumb enough to basically broadcast it all to the masses somehow. Imagine if they were really as slick as they think they are.

Yes. And your conclusion is probably correct because there are probably more weak links than strong ones.
But strong links count, and they can counteract the weaks ones. McConnel has been an extraordinarily strong link, and will continue to be; until he isnāt, which will be soon.
And then there are strong links whose strength is not personal, but institutional. The fascist block of the the Supreme Court is a very strong link, not because these are strong men, but because they are stongly, perhaps invulnerably, fortified. There is no evident way to make them pay consequences for the worst possible behavior.
But even so, it appears that there are enough weak links to squander these advantages.

This is Princeās standard play. He will issue a categorical denial followed by a fall back that admits that a meeting or incident happened, but then give an āalternative factā explanation that has plausible deniability but does not withstand scrutiny.

I donāt know if it is true or not, but i once read that the whole purpose of compulsory, free, public education after 1880 was to make good citizens of all the immigrant kids flowing in through Ellis Island. It was not to train cogs for the industrial Moloch. Somewhere along the way (I think late 70ās, early 80ās), that purpose was abandoned in favor of making widgits.
