There simply must be some explanation for it, since at face value it’s nuts – Priebus had virtually no chance of success at actually getting the FBI to either back down on the investigation or to make a statement supporting trump’s view of things. Yet the risk to Priebus and the trump administration, both politically and legally, was high. It really makes no sense.
So, can we safely assume Jefferson Beauregard Sessions is putting his final polish on Reince Priebus’ obstruction of justice indictment? Should be served by lunch, right guys?
There’s the corner. Here’s the paint.
Face it kid, you have no idea what you’re doing.
“Yet the risk to Priebus and the trump administration, both politically and legally, was high. It really makes no sense.”
Agreed.
Unless the risk of what the intell community knows is higher than than the risk of getting caught.
some people do snark way good
John Dean tweeted: “I have expertise on this matter. Push back on an FBI investigation of the White House is better known as a COVER UP”
Response from NYT about this scandal, in which they play a central role? Not a word. As far as they are concerned there is no story here. Interesting.
Definitely do not count on Chaffetz - he was on NPR this morning w/Steve Inskeep. In addition to complaining protestors at his townhall were not constituents, he stonewalled on any questions about investigating anyone in the new administration about anything because lack of evidence: emoluments, Russian contacts, etc. Steve asked isn’t his committee supposed to investigate to uncover evidence - which seemed to catch Chaffetz off guard a bit, but then he went right into Benghazi and Clinton (although I seem to recall, even though Steve didn’t, that Chaffetz sent out a tweet about Clinton emails on a computer that the FBI did not even look at, much less have a search warrant for.)
WALLACE: Who is it that said that?
PRIEBUS: I’m not going to tell you.
WALLACE: Well, wait a minute, Reince. You just complained about unnamed sources, you’re using an unnamed source.
pwnage, as the kids used to say.
Independent prosecutor. Now. Before they can destroy all the evidence and the Russians kill all the witnesses.
He has something better - senators who explicitly state that republicans shouldn’t investigate other republicans, and oversight committees that are probably just making perfunctory noise at this point.
@matx — Agreed. He is going to deflect and obstruct nonstop. I think it will be up to the Senate to lead.
@commiedearest — IIRC an independent prosecutor requires legislation because the law that created it expired a coupla decades ago. Unfortunately that is a bridge too far these days.
@musgrove–As I noted a short while ago on WaPo:
Yet again, these morons demonstrate that they cannot get even the simplest things right. If the rule is to not contact the FBI about ongoing investigations, then don’t contact the FBI about ongoing investigations. Is it really that hard?
MAGA my ass.
Yup, contradictory AND redundant in the space of 7 words. Looks like Bannon’s sidekick’s speaking style is rubbing off on him.
He uses the same language with both Chuck Todd and Chris Wallace. Obviously carefully selected language.
He’s trying to maintain some wiggle room when we all learn there were actually contacts.
You’re implying they understood how any sort of government process worked at the time Priebus made the request, but all evidence to date indicates that the entire administration staff thought DT had just been elected King.
Yeah, I know, but a commie can dream, can’t he?
NYT weather today - Cloudy with a chance of Shadows.
@tiowally–Don’t forget mendacious.
Oh, and I firmly believe in systems theory, which says the leader of an organization establishes the atmosphere for the entire system, and all within the system operate out of that atmosphere. It’s no accident that Nixon’s administration was marked by paranoia throughout, W’s administration was marked by a blase incompetence, and President Obama’s by a cool confidence. All were reflections of the president’s personality.
Given who is at the top, it’s no surprise that bizarre behavior abounds in trump’s administration.
