Because itā€™s simple battery (or ā€œassaultā€ if thatā€™s what Montana law calls it). No serious bodily injury.

Not necessarily so. Itā€™s a misdemeanor, and a summons was probably all that was required.

Unless you can demonstrate a connection to the case, he is under no obligation to consider your request.

Not saying you shouldnā€™t write, just that Lambertā€™s been doing this for ages and knows that Gianforteā€™s lawyers will challenge his reasoning if their plea for special treatment is turned down. Lambert canā€™t cite outsidersā€™ pleas, however well-intentioned (and with which I agree), as his reason.

Glad to see theyā€™re staying on this angle. This is the most damning part, IMO. Selling out your integrity in cold blood is worse than losing your temper under duress. Gianforte is a rat.

I noticed that the headline for the discussion of this article is different from the actual article, ā€œPress Groups Urge Congressional Probe On Congressman-Electā€™s Alleged Assault Of Reporterā€. Since he apologized and essentially confessed, itā€™s not ā€œallegedā€.
