Obviously there aren’t enough guns in 'merica.

Hey isn’t someone guilty of performing an abortion?

If guns don’t kill people, why is it when a person kills a person by being irresponsible with a gun, we call it “accidental”? It’s not like the gun was being driven to work and the driver lost control. Someone took out a loaded gun and then, rather than acting with appropriate caution, did something that caused someone’s death - a fact that was a foreseeable consequence of carrying a loaded gun for no reason.

This - and every other “accidental” shooting - is involuntary manslaughter. And until we start charging people with that, these “accidental” shootings will continue forever.

The gun accidentally fired and shot Katherine Hoover in the head.

Putting a loaded gun on display in a room full of people? I have a terrible feeling if homicide charges are brought at all, it will be because the unborn child was murdered.

It makes it sound like, on its own, the gun just fired. Maybe guns DO kill people!

FOUR “accidentals” in one six sentence story. I forget, what’s the record?

Accidental Killing = A death caused by a lawful act done under the reasonable belief that no harm was likely to result.

Accidental killing is different from Involuntary Manslaughter, which causes death by an unlawful act or a lawful act done in an unlawful way.

If these are correct definitions, it wouldn’t be involuntary manslaughter, as his actions (except the homicide), appear legal, stupid, but legal. Getting that changed will be difficult.

Guns don’t kill people. Guns in the hands of people kill people.

See my gun collection. Be careful though. each 1 is loaded and has one round in the chamber. They have been known to suddenly discharge accidentally. sometimes they kill, sometimes they hit houses across the street. They have no sympathy for humans and will kill without conscience.
another victim and unborn falls for stupidity sake.
Unbelievable

I’ve handled a fair number of guns and have a lot of experience with revolvers. They just don’t go off without first cocking or pulling on the trigger.

Is the gun OK? Will it get two notches for this “accident”??

I wonder if the men later - after the deaths being pronounced at the hospital - went back to the house ot check out the other guns in his collections? Maybe move up to a 9mm, then the 45 and see if more accidental discharges are in order for the day?

MORE proof that merely having a gun is MUCH more dangerous than NOT having one.

Florida is a Right to Life state, so who is being held accountable for murdering the unborn child? They gonna blame it on the mopther for dying from a mere head shot?

I was thinking the same thing. The pistol had to be loaded and cocked, pointed at her head, and the trigger pressed somehow. If it weren’t cocked, it would take a much longer and harder press on the trigger, with all the other factors present too. I’m sorry to say I think the likeliest scenario was horseplay, and the owner pointed the gun at her and pulled the trigger. Any other possibility is just astrally remote. It’s the same as with cars—people stop respecting the lethality through familiarity and these sorts of things are the near-inevitable result.

This was a freaking revolver. Single action or double action there had to be a finger inside the trigger guard, and that finger had to pull the trigger.

This isn’t an accident.

By any means necessary!

Unborn probably had it coming.

If it were truly ‘innocent’, Baby Jeebus or his pops would have intervened on its behalf. Since that didn’t happen …

… which means the Republicant Florida authorities and the NRA aren’t on the same page of the hymnal.

Fundie RWNJs everywhere will be salivating over the prospect as soon as this is disseminated widely.
Don’t rule out them attempting to do so.

This is how the Schiavo ordeal got started.
And we’re just 100 days to November elections

Dear Caitlin, the words to use are negligently or recklessly. Only if the gun malfunctioned or was badly designed/manufactured, does the word accidentally apply.

Yours for better journalism,
